This is with K-7 but unfortunately I can't tell you what settings because I just just playing around with a bunch of stuff

Hey everybody, newbie poster here! My first post, and I'm already raving about my brand new Pentax K7, an upgrade from my well-loved K110D. During the past few weeks, I did so much research into K7 that it now feels almost like I've long had it.

But what really gets me is the weirdness... What's the deal with all these hot pixels in "long exposures" already? I spent the best part of last evening and this morning conducting tests, comparing with K110D, updating firmware (to 1.01 and then 1.02), reading this and other forums... and instead of solutions arrived at a new relationship with the beast: "Pentax problems are not to be solved, they are to be loved"! :p

Try this: update your K7 firmware to 1.02, turn OFF noise reduction on long exposures, then do two shots at high ISO, say 1600, both for 10s, but one on Manual, the other on Bulb. If things work on your camera as they do on mine, what you will get is hot pixels on the Manual shot, but no hot pixels on the Bulb shot, even though there was no noise reduction going on after the Bulb exposure!

Unreal! And enough for me to forget the whole problem, since I discovered that my aged old version of ACR does indeed fight the little pixies very efficiently anyway.

Here's looking forward to the next firmware update and more loveable weirdness! :D

Long live Petax and all Pentaxonians!

Hey people,

I have a Pentax K-m and I'm using my good old analogue Telezoom (28-80mm).
When I mount the tele on the K-m and switch "on" it always asks me to set the focal length. Should I set it to the lowest (it think it would be 30mm or 25mm there) or to the highest? Or to an average value?
I've been always going with the setting "75mm" (since there is no "80mm"). Went pretty good but I don't no if it (when wrong set) interferes with the focus or some other function.
I have, obviously, the same problem with my other old tele (80mm-200mm).

Thanks!

Just compared CCD and CMOS rendering of red velvet roses.
You don't need to be expert to see deeper CCD image without such blown reds (and historgams are pretty the same). In fact both are quite far from reality (and exposure or any other play don't fix this either).
Purple and deep red are always difficult for digital sensors.

Hi everyone-

I love my new K-x like everyone else seems to, but I'm just having some problems getting stop-down metering to work with my Takumars and I would appreciate any advice that you might have. I'm not new to stop-down metering, having used it with my Takumars on my K100d for about two years. However when I put the Takumars on the K-x and press the green button, nothing happens. No sound of aperture blades, no metering. What is particularly odd is that when I mount an "M" lens on the K-x, the green button does work, performing the stop-down metering as it should.

Am I missing something obvious here? Is there a particular way that the green button has to be configured for m-42 lenses? Or, god forbid, does the K-x not meter with m-42s?

I should note that the Takumars I've tried are the SMC 50 1.4 and the SMC 28 3.5, both of which have quite narrow mounts that don't fully cover the electrical contact points on the camera body. Maybe that's a factor.

Thanks for any suggestions.

However one feature which I haven't found much info on is the dust removal system on the Kx; how more advanced and hopefully improved, is this feature compared to my K100D, for example? How does the system incorporated by the Kx compare with the higher spec models?

Any assistance in removing/detecting those nasty dust particles would be greatly appreciated!

I have been reading threads from this website
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/p...so-3200-a.html
and another well known one, regarding this issue with the K7 having "more noise" than either the Kx and/or the K20D.
This has almost become an urban legend!

Now frankly, and I am calling on USERS of the K7 who can realistically give their opinion on the noisy question, it would be nice to have some REAL feedback.
I would also guess that most K7 users would have owned a K10D or a K20D, perhaps a Km even.

Speculating of those facts, are you, K7 users, satisfied with your results?
Would you say that you regret having purchased the K7, because of a noise issue?
Is this noise issue really a big problem?
How often would/will you shoot at 3200 ISO?
Overall, do you like the K7 performances under "normal" light conditions (i.e: full sun, cloudy, overcast, indoors ... )?
Any of you doing wildlife/bird photography ... do you like the way the K7 handles and the results you get? (trying to compare to the K10/K20D'S).
Had you known that the K7 would produce such "intolerable" (quoting from another website) noise, would you have thought of switching to another brand altogether?

Anyway, those are questions I ask to myself because I am just about to get the K7, give my very dependable K10D to my son and keep the K20D as my other workhorse.

Any comments from K7 users would be very much appreciated.

Cheers to all.

I picked up a used *ist DL off of Craigslist today. The body looks to be in good to excellent condition except that the eyepiece cup is missing. The lens glass looks fine but the rubber on the lens is a little dirty. Hood & lens cap also missing, but optically it looks perfect from what I can see. I'm trying to figure out whether I want to sell it here or on eBay or just keep it as a spare body. I had one a bit ago and I forgot how nice and light it was.

Also does anybody know where I can find a replacement cup? Or does anyone have an old beat up body that might have one to fit? I've heard that AE-1 Cups work fine.

Thanks

It seems to me that the flash is actually AUTO whether it's set to auto or manual, that is, flash exposure is determined by the amount of light reflected back to the sensor.

I hope this is clear.

Thanks,

Hi guys,

I don't own either of these cameras, so I really don't know much about this subject. I'm asking for a friend who wants to know if he should upgrade his K-m to the K-x for better JPEG quality.

As you know, the K-m was somewhat universally derided for its poor JPEG processing. I know, I know... shoot RAW! shoot RAW! Well, he doesn't want to shoot RAW that often because he wants to be able to share his photos with friends/family straight out of the camera.

Anyone have experience with both and can give me a rundown on how the in-camera processing differs? Maybe some side-by-side examples if there's anyone out there with both?

Thanks!

This camera's ability to shoot at high ISO's is just great ...... It surpasses my K20D by a large step and trounces the K200D. Although I must admit the only Pentax camera I owned that had poor performance in the high ISO department was my the K10D.

Ya, I know the K200D has the same sensor as the K10D, but it has improved high ISO performance, although not the best.

FYI, my other Pentax base ISO's are:

My K20D at 280 ISO
My K200D at 200 ISO

I have been using Pentax film gear for years, and am thinking of buying a K-7 (or prehaps a K-x). I prefer focusing manually, and thus I would intend to use K-mount lenses (A-series) and a few screwmount lenses on a DSLR. Thus, would the DOF on the lens scale work in the same manner as it would with a film SLR? For example, with a 35mm focal length, all will be in foucs from about 8 or 10 feet and beyond. This 35mm lens will convert to about a 52mm lens when used with digital. However, will I still get my "all in foucs" at the same 8 or 10 feet if I use the lens on a K-7 or K-x?
