I'm considering buying the DA* 55mm 1.4 but I'm a bit putt off by the reviews. Many reviewers have had problems with bad samples. Here is a quote from DPReview.

"Unfortunately, though, we have serious concerns over two issues with this lens which have to temper our enthusiasm; namely optical alignment and autofocus (which are quite likely related). Over the course of what has become a rather protracted regime of testing, we've looked at three samples of this lens, and each has shown a clear tilt to the focus plane; this was most pronounced in the first sample, but relatively minor in the last (indeed in this sample it was only really detectable in our studio tests). This does more than simply mess up our studio tests - it clearly results in real-world image quality and focusing problems too. In fact we've never before seen a lens so capricious when it comes to focusing - we're used to F1.4 primes being challenging for cameras' AF systems, but the 55mm was most difficult of all. We couldn't get any of the tested samples to focus sufficiently accurately for reliable shooting wide open without resorting to focus adjustment, and the amount required on our K20D body (which focused the FA 50mm F1.4 just fine) was huge, a full +10. The lens worked better on the K-7 we received during the course of this review, but still needed adjustment for best results, although curiously in the opposite direction (-3); but on the K2000 we were left high and dry, unable to achieve accurate focus at all. Based on this experience, it becomes difficult for us to recommend the lens to owners of cameras other than the K20D and K-7, on which AF adjustment isn't available, unless you can test it to your satisfaction first."

I own a K200D with absolutely no plans to upgrade yet. I looked at the K-7, but it doesn't offer anything that I feel I need. Currently the K200D works just fine for me. HD video looks fun, but it's not currently enough to make me upgrade. Maybe if the next cameras has 1080p and less problems with panning, but that remains to be seen.

Can anyone here confirm this problem with the 55mm? Was this only a problem when the lens was new?

The last time I was at the local camera swap I picked up a remote optical flash triger. If that is not the correct title for it, it is a little box that slips onto the bottom of a flash and triggers it by "seeing" the light from another flash. It has a standard tripod screw hole in the bottom.

If I take these two old auto thyristor flashes and use them both on auto mode at the same time what will the exposure be like? Is my idea totally nuts? Will the position of the flashes matter?

I am part of many different hobbies and therefor are a member of several forums. On just about all of them there is an area to show of your ever growing collection.

SO....This thread is for showing off *ALL* your lenses big and small, any brand!

The rules:

- This is for posting pictures of your lenses (extension tubes and TC's count), not camera bodies or other equipment (i.e. flashes).

- The picture must contain more than one lens (cant have a collection with just one lens ;) )

- Please for the sake of us viewers, list the lenses shown

- Obviously you will need a lens to take the picture with (unless you have another camera body or P&S). Because of this, please specify the lens you took the picture with. (I suggest using your most un-impressive lens to take the picture. This thread is for showing off after all)

Thats about it!

Disclaimer:
- The pictures to follow will provoke LBA.... possibly severely. You have been warned :ugh:

- Keyboard may become covered in drool ;)

Also, they want to know what to wear. It's a group of two families and their parents. So six adults and two kids. They want some all together, some of families separate, and just kids.

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

Hi!

I just recieved my Pentax K-X kit with the 18-55mm and the 55-300 lenses. I am planning on using the camera at tradeshows and convetions and I'm hoping to use its video feature to record some interviews as well.

I've had a chance to test out both of my lenses and in bright light the quality is fantastic. When I come inside however, even after locking in the apeture level, the grain is just two much in low lighting.

From my reading on the forums I thinking I need a faster lens. I was looking for any suggestions for something I might find on here or ebay in the $50-$150 range.

When doing the interviews the camera would be an a tripod, and the subject would be sitting or standing fairly close to the camera.

Thanks for your help!

I'm trying to use RAW mode, but can't seem to get the images to open in Windows.

I installed a WIC codec from the Pentax site, and also the Fastpictureviewer WIC codec pack from Fast Picture Viewer | WIC RAW Codec Pack for Windows 7, Vista and XP

I can see a preview of the images (and they look good, dammit!!) but can't open them in Photo Viewer.

I get an error that says "The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted"

Similarly, if I try to open them in CS3, I get an error.

I'm wondering - has the RAW format changed for the K-x?

can anyone suggest what I need to install to be able to use/manipulate these .PEF files?
