sleek case for K100d+DA40?

I'm inching closer and closer to my everyday carry DSLR. I've got the k100d super, and I'm on the prowl for a used DA40.

I've visited J&R and Adorama in search of a case for this thing. I need it to just hold the camera, preferably with a velcro flap for quick access, possibly with a belt loop I'm not in cargo shorts and don't have a bag. Padding is not critical.

Before I start measuring and building models, and diving into the deep end on bag websites, has anyone found such a thing?

Maybe I need to be looking at vidcam or flash cases.

F-903 MEDIUM POUCH-OLIVE - Tiffen.Com

K100d is 129 x 93 x 70 mm (5.0 x 3.7 x 2.8 in)
the case is 5.5"H x 4"W x 3"D

I wonder if that's internal or external dimensions.

Russell do you use these yourself, do you have lens covers as well? If you do, how are they working out for you? They look like a convenient, space saving solution.

Thanks,
Gary

I unfortunately don't have any of the Limiteds, so have never used the body pouch. I have some of the larger Optech body and lens versions. My only complaint about the larger versions are the plastic snaps. To me, they are hard to use.

With the snaps not workable for my hands, I removed the snap closures on the flap, the tops, and threaded a bit of 5mm shock cord through the holes left in the flap. I made this into a loop and used a cord lock to provide a way to tighten and loosen the loop. I finished off the top joint of the loop using a one inch piece of electrical heat shrink tubing.

For use, the loop is wrapped under the body and then looped over the lens. It works in the opposite direction of a Zing bag. If they made the Zings with a wider lens diameter, I probably would have bought them instead just for the easier use with no modification needed. I tried all the large Zings in a local store, and didn't have any luck finding one that would work with the zooms I own. The Optech bags have an almost square shape to the lens pouch that stretches pretty easily.

Sorry I can't specifically speak to use of the body pouches with the K100D and DA 40m.

Thank you
Russell

OMG this is a photo forum. How dare you post such a beautiful elaborate description of a DIY mod, and not post pictures!

I might just get that optech and some velcro and see if I can make magic happen.

EDIT: Russell, my gratitude to you. "body pouch" put me on the right track, found lots of stuff!

Amazing stuff there, including a neoprene cap for lenshoods. This will be an amazing urban warfare rig with an R-strap.

Looks perfect for what you want, good find.

I have seen the video on the R-strap and thought it was a pretty good idea. I leave a QR plate on my camera all the time however, so the R-Strap mount isn't workable for me.

There is the Y-strap that uses the camera strap loops instead of the tripod mount. I thought I could make one myself and went so far as to price out the materials at REI. I just couldn't get anyone to help me at the climbing counter, so gave up. I need to go back and try again.

Thank you
Russell
