I have Slingshot 100 and Flipside 300. I like Flipside more. I have bought Flipside only to be it as cabine luggage during my trip to Australia, I was not able to fit everything I wanted to take with me (photo equipment + external hard drives, videocamera) into Slingshot. However I liked Flipside so much, that I don't use Slingshot anymore.

My subjective ecaluation:
  • Accessibility is better in Flipside - you open it and have nice direct access to everything you have.
  • Comfort is definitely better in Flipside - weight distributed on both shoulders+waiststrap versus weight on one shoulder only. Plus Flipside has straps for tripod. On the other hand Slingshot can be carried in front, thus allowing to carry another backpack and still have easy access to your gear without dismounting.
  • Camera access speed is better in Slingshot

thanks, just ordered the flipside 200 artic blue
according to external dimensions, the slingshot 100 all weather cover will fit it, and should be able to store either in the pocket for the tripod mount or the side pocket where most reviews claimed storage is minimal, so this would make it a Flipside 200AW
the red did not grab me, and the black camera bag i am tired of owning
BBA this is my sixth bag in one year

Bags, Bags, Bags! They seem to come with the territory, haha. I have used an Apollo backpack (found only on ebay - very nice non-photog looking bag, still sold, do a search if you like). This has been great for a long time, had it for several years. I have also used varying backpacks with domke inserts with some success as well for times when I don't want everything. The Apollo backpack has literally begun coming apart at the seams, and looks ready to burst when I put everything in it. I think it will be relegated to the house as a store-all going forward.

I was doing some research over the weekend into sling bags, and decided on the kata 3n1-30 (the biggest one). It is the closest thing to a replacement backpack (being a combo sling or backpack, which immediately drew me in), and after some measuring the camera portion should hold all (if not most) of my gear if necessary (the longest dimension is about 2 inches shorter, but there are some wasted spaces in the apollo bag). I really liked the top portion having room for a jacket and snacks, and my netbook as well (at least, I hope, its not very big!). I've always thought the lowepro bags, while very nice quality, look too much like a camera bag, and I wanted something that I can begin carrying with my everywhere (we'll see if that happens!) without drawing attention.

I think this kata will be great. I doubt there will ever be a perfect bag (everyone has their own vision of what that means anyways!) for me, but on paper this one seems to come very close.

Ideally, I think my perfect bag would be a sling that is more elongated. it would be heavy duty fabric/semi regid and a heavy duty zipper would actually split the bag in two pieces. It would be a long rectangle, with a zip open top where you could pull out a kXXd w/grip, the first portion long enough to fit the 50-135 w/hood attached, a spot for a flash under the lens, and next to the lens a slot for a netbook. the second portion would be shorter, and have 4 slots for lenses which can be taken, or left behind if not needed. One side would also be an expandable pocket with some padding for any extras needed. Wow, where did all that come from?! If only I could sew
