Cheap Trip/mono pod alternative

I like the idea showed in the clip below.
Has anybody tried this stabilization "tool" in the field?
Does it work?

One draw back I see is that in my case I'd probably make a mess of the rope.

An older idea is just to use a loop of string, the right sort of length to loop over the lens and brace with your feet, making a triangle. It allows you to adjust somewhat for angle.

Not something I really troubled with, but it can work.

I commented on this device before.

If you use it be very certain that the camera strap is securely around your neck.
There is a strong and potentially disasterous downward pull on your camera.
