Going to the US soon, a few questions

Ok, I got a chance trip to the US comming up and by chance i mean the very fact, that I will get the chance to spend a few days off on the way but i need a little help here.

Plan is to fly in to Denver on August 4th
and I need to be in Salt lake on august 9th.

Plan off the top of my head:

1 night in denver as I arrive late afternoon
- Drive to Moab and spend the 5-8th in Arches
- Drive to SLC on the 9th.

Now the questions:
Where to stay near denver?
Recommended place to stay, while in Moab?

Arches seemed to be located more or less in between and thus my choice, but should I be doing something else?

Thanks for any help or pointers you may be able to provide.

Hi Thomas,

It looks like I am running a workshop at Capitol Reef National Park in mid-September.. sorry you're going to be in the area just 5 weeks ahead of me!!!

Check here: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/659881-post4.html

(Relatively inexpensive lodging link provided in that post)

Thanks for the link marc and your helpful PMs a couple of weeks back.
Would have been great if we had been around at the same time.

Well thomas, I am trying to get out there. I really want to take my truck as we could go anywhere (almost) in it problem is $$$ to fix some things that should get fixed on it.
However I may just be saying f-it and run it anyway. Whats a few hundred miles of 4x4 offroading after a 2500 mile trip right? lol
Plus I can test out gear that I will need for my trip and mini high-adventure workshop next spring in Az.
ugg. im trying

Hi Thomas,
Arches is a great place to visit and a photographers wonderland.
Here are a few other things you might be interested in:

Mount Evans (4348m) is about 60 miles west of Denver. It has a paved road to the top. Great place to see Mountain Goats, Marmot and Pikas.
Mount Evans - Highest Paved Road in North America

Rattlesnake Canyon is on the west side of Colorado (near Grand Junction) and features several Arches and best of all no crowds (unlike Moab).

If you want more ideas let me know, there is plenty more to see in Colorado. These two are on the way to Utah, so you'd pass by them anyway.

The First Ever PentaXpedition

Featuring BrendanPK and Dulpo (aka Brendan and Thomas) lol
All is set on my end, as long as the truck makes it out there I should be meeting up with you (Thomas) Wed. mid-day it looks. (Driving from Maryland, so it will take a while)
I have a book reserved for me out at a local store in Moab al on the 4x4-trails in the area so we can do some of those along with the paved park roads.
The truck is almost ready to go, putting the finishing touches on it in the next day or 2. If all go's well I will be able to upload from anywhere with a cell signal so be watching for photos!
If all go's well with this trial run, I hope to make my Spring 2010 trip to the Desert of Az. official and open to anyone (4x4/high-clearance a must) and thus start a whole line of "PentaXpedition's" (Photo expeditions for anyone, but dedicated to the k-mount lovers)

If anyone wants to meet me on the way, or provide me with a couch to sleep on somewhere in Kansas or Colorado I would let them play with all my k-mounts, and buy them a beer! Otherwise look for a red Tacoma pick-up flying across the states with a PentaxForums sticker on the back!
