FotoWeekDC is running a novel project this weekend. Beginning at 6 PM on Saturday night until 6 AM Sunday morning they hope to canvas DC with photographers.
You shoot whatever you want and take up to 30 shots to FotoWeekDC Central 1 (in Georgetown). They will have computers and editing software available for basic post-processing. A board of editors will select ONE photo from each photographer and print an 11x14 to be hung in the exhibit.
This is a unique opportunity to participate in a dynamic project and exhibition that will be on display throughout the rest of FotoWeekDC.
There is no indication about what will happen to your photo after the end of the exhibition but i have RSVP'd and hopefully that info will be provided in their reply. I will let you know.
Anyone up for a few hours of shooting DC after dark?
Mike
p.s. Make sure you send a RSVP to NightVisions@FotoWeekDC.org - a simple e-mail telling then you will be there is sufficient

Reason: added p.s.
Honestly Mike I haven't thought that far ahead. We have soccer until about 2pm. How late/early does Metro run? Georgetown is like another country to me in terms of familiarity.
I do not think that I will attend the lectures and doubt i'll come to the launch cocktail.
I'm hopping to finish taking pictures by around 1am, head to georgetown to deliver the photos and take the metro at rosslyn (less than a mile away) before 3am when service stops.
that way I can get some sleep for the game at 9 am the next day....
I also plan on traveling light:
tripod / remote
K-x if it gets here in time, if not than K10
77mm ltd
10-20mm sigma
50mm 1.4
360 flash
I have to work Sunday at noon do I think I'm with you on the finish time thing.
Probable stuff I'm bringing:
K-7
DA*50-135
DA*16-50
DA 10-17 fisheye (and yes i'll share if anyone else wants to play)
tripod/remote
I MAY throw in a takumar or two if I'm feeling ambitious. But generally I've found that I rarely use anything longer than 135 in cities.
Metro service stops at 3am? Cool. So I can ride in from Springfield then. Now for the shameful part. Where exactly is Georgetown? What line and what stop should I be aiming for?
I want to be done shooting by 1am as well (if that late) so I'm good to go for that plan.
From Springfield you would take the BLUE line straight in to Rosslyn (closest station). From there it is a 3/4 mile walk across the Key Bridge. FotoWeek Central 1 is just about 2 blocks from the end of the bridge.
Georgetown is the snooty old-timey part of DC Mel... Just across the river from Rosslyn and west of downtown DC. Just type in "3338 M. St. NW, Washington, DC" to Google Maps.
I will be bringing the following...
K20D
DA 16-45 f4
DA 50-200
50mm f1.7
Tamron 28-75 f2.8
Tripod
AF540G Flash
We can figure out where and when to meet between now and then. I do not believe you have to go to FW Central 1 before starting to shoot but I will verify this and let you know.
I love how you put blue line in blue just in case I don't quite understand the word blue means blue and I can go by the color. lol.
and oh yeah, flash. and a sync cord in case i wanna get REALLY wild. and that explains why i don't hang out much in georgetown.
So probably everyone else will be hitting the monuments and bridges no? So lets find us an interesting-at-night to shoot place that won't be what everyone else is shooting. Cuz we're Pentaxians and we're different anyway.
Hey, I'm VISUAL! LOL I just checked and moonrise is at 9:37 so there might be some opportunities there. Have to figure out the exact direction, but I have an iPhone app for that
Parking is plentiful as far as I've heard. Ballston is up in north Arlington, just off of I-66. As for "just as easy" it depends on if you'd rather be driving up or riding the Metro up.
For you, you could either...
- drive up I-95 and hit the Beltway (inner loop) then take I-66 East to Ballston... OR
- go up I-395 to the Pentagon and do a dance to get onto 110 North to hit I-66 West to go back out to Ballston.
If you chose to drive in I'd recommend the Beltway to I-66 East route.
This would save you time on the Metro at 2 in the morning... You'd still need to Metro in to meet us at Rosslyn if you want to shoot the Marine Memorial (think we might get some good moonrise over the city shots with the memorial in the foreground).
Mike
p.s. Oh, and parking at that garage is supposedly only $1 for the whole day on the weekend...
