K10 vs K200?

With the price for the K10 coming down, it seems they're virtually the same cost or soon will be. All things being equal (which they're not, but we can try) which one will give a newcomer the best upgrade from a K100 and 50mm f/1.4? I want to concentrate on found urban objects, some architecture and some portraits, no sports, no macro, no landscapes, and 90%+ b&w. I'd like to build toward a 31 and 77 to go with the 50 and have a body that will give me the best possible resolution with that combination.

The sensor is identical. The controls on the K10D are mostly available without diving into the menus, which I prefer over the more menu centric controls on the Kx00D series. The dual e-dials are a significant advantage. One can set f/stop and shutter speed simply using a forefinger for the one and the thumb wheel for the other.

I'm going through the same dilemma and have decided to save a little more and go for a K20. The reviews and forum posts all seem to indicate the K20 is a really excellent camera. Going for a model that's already been superceded could leave you a bit frustrated, IMO.

I have just upgraded from istDL to K10D and so far I like K10D and its controls. What I do not like about it is the weight (considerably heavier) and that it uses proprietary battery (somehow I feel more secure with camera that uses standard AA batteries). Other than that K10D is amazing camera. AF is faster than istDL, viewfinder is bigger and brighter and you can do a lot more without even touching the menu. I like that it doesn't have all the program modes because I never used them. I rather have the second dial. But on the other hand, istDL is one of the first DSLRs so the comparison might not help you as you are trying to decide between latest K200D and K10D.

Like Canada Rockies, the accessibility of controls on the K10D is the deal closer. For this, I'm hesistant to purchase a K200 as a second body.

K10D for sure. One thing that drove me crazy with the K100D was diving into the menu every five minutes to adjust settings which are accessible externally on the K10D/K20D.

If you have the dollars consider the K20D.

I went from the K100D to the K10D, and definitely prefer the controls of the K10D. Given the K200D follows the K100D in terms of controls, I would would definitely go with the K10...

The biggest avantage K10D offers when compared to K200D is bigger/ brighter viewfinder - pentaprism vs. pentamirror, it is the main reason I am switching from K100D to K10D.

Other issues included in the thread already are easier control of different functions in case of K10D, and K10D drawbacks: bigger size/ weight and the proprietary battery.

I've had my K100D a little over a year now, and I've been satisfied with the viewfinder thus far. In fact, the viewfinder has never been an issue with me.

If the K10/K20D's viewfinder is that much brighter, (and I do believe everyone who's said so) it must be fantastic!

I could probably swing a K20D right now, but I'd rather bulild a slightly larger collection of good glass before I upgrade the body.

4 days left for that $100 rebate on a K20D body...

I also chose K10D over K200D because of the bigger/brighter viewfinder. I was able to compare between K20D (same viewfinder as K10D) and K200D at the local camera store, It was just so much better to see. This is even more important to me than the easier control, not that I don't like the fact to have external control vs menu.
Having say that, I can't wait for my K10D arrive.

I myself was having this debate.

After reading a few reviews and really thinking about it I'm opting to save money for a little while longer and buy a k20d and grip in some sort of package deal. Yea I'll be spending more, but at the end of the day I won't be having buyers remorse because I couldn't be a little more patient. Besides, I have a camera right now that has been serving me just fine for over a year now, a few more months won't kill me.
