K100D wows em in NYC art camp

and dad is beaming. Daughter is at a SOCAPA photography camp in Brooklyn, she took a Program Plus with her... the camp was going to loan a digital camera. Only daughter turned her nose up at the huge monstrosities... and then was caught without one. So I drove in yesterday to drop off my pride and joy with the 16-45.

Today daughter emails:
"i showed off my digital camera to the teachers and they really liked it, and one of them didn't know it even existed. [My friend] said she's going to try to get her parents to buy it for her, because she instantly fell in love with it. i filled up the memory card, but then again i'm shooting in RAW so everything is much bigger."

Now, some of the teachers are barely past childhood themselves (Ooooh do I feel old saying that!) and only know Canon and Nikon. I don't think they even realize that daughter can simply put on the old Tamron 35-80 adaptall and keep snapping away, and vice versa, put the 16-45 on the Pgm Plus for that far out ultra wide angle thing.

So they shoot RAW, damnit. I'll have to get a larger memory card.

I also have the K100D, and you may know this already, but it won't read a 4-gb without the firmware being updated. I found out the hard way last week when I was visiting my grandson, and put a 4-gb card in and got...."memory card error". I had won the card at a Pentaxian get-together and had not used it. I updated to version 1.02 yesterday, and it works like a charm.

Thanks Tom, I was on my way to making the same mistake, so your note is very timely. I wish I remember which firmware I have...

Just hold down the menu button when you power the camera on (or have your daughter do it for you).

I am really not surprised at your daughters response Nesster.

It still WOW's me looking at some of my OLD photographs taken on my K100D. With the 18 - 55 Kit lens.

I'm still selling the odd photograph taken with this setup, and it's an ideal back-up camera for me.
