Question What does edgy mean???

My husband & I got into a discussion this morning about this. I was surprised because his idea was so different than mine. So I pose this question pertaining to photography. What does edgy mean to you????

Nothing. Well, actually it usually means a bunch of photographs that either have been manipulated not to look like a "photograph" or some really bad, horribly staged shock image. Most are done by art students to please critics or instructors and look like something done by bad impressionist painters or the worst of the modern/abstract artists.

The Texan seems rather jaded...

A picture which is, by design, intended to make the viewer think about more than how pretty the colours are is a good start to defining it.
It's not a term that is really applicable to run of the mill landscapes.
It doesn't matter what you do, a picture of a sunset or a kitten is not likely to be "edgy".

The third explanation i.e.

"Daring, provocative, or trend-setting: an exhibition of edgy photographs; an edgy menu"

from the link shown in Gary's reply is how I see 'Edgy'

I think of edgy as being anything that pushes the boundaries of conventional tastes...."pushing the envelope".

ER, no I would not consider that photo "edgy". That shot is calming and peaceful to me. Edgy is the opposite of calm and peaceful!

NaCl(the only thing "edgy" about it is that it has top, bottom and side edges)H2O

Stark, emotive (in a dark sense), provacative. Uneasy.

NaCl(I wouldn't expect to walk away happy and content from an exhibit of edgy photos)H2O

Photoshop in a few dead bodies and it might get "edgy".

NaCl(blood guts and gore are almost always "edgy" )H2O

I posted my pic in responce to Wheatfield's comments but there were several posts made while I was getting it uploaded, Salty, but you and Wheatfield are right and unfortunately I don't have any pics of dead bodies to photoshop in:-).
In fact, rereading "A picture which is, by design, intended to make the viewer think about more than how pretty the colours are is a good start to defining it." I got it all wrong because that was my intention with this pic, to get a pic that was all about the pretty colors!
Sorry guys, I guess I was looking for an excuse to post this pic, even if it was a sorry excuse, lol.
