New to Forum

Greeting ya'll
I'm new to this site and decided to join after reading many posts and liking what I read.

I have just received my new Pentax K200D! I was currently using a friends K100D and enjoyed it very much so figured when buying my own the next step up to the 200 would be a good thing .

In put my new camera together I found that the Memory card didn't slid into the slot smoothly nor snap out smoothly (or at all) as well. Does this have anything to do with the weather sealing or do I have a problem with the card or a issue with the camera itself??

With my friends K100 the card snapped in and out nicely!

Do I have a bad camera ?!

Hello, and welcome!

The weather-sealing on the K200D definitely makes it a little more difficult to remove the card. It shouldn't actually any tighter of a fit, but it's tought to get your fingers around the card because of the seals. Sometimes I gab by the corners, sometimes I use the little fingernail tab on the card.

Oh - you do know you need to push the card in first to make it pop halfway out, don't you?

But the card itself shouldn't be any tighter fit than the K100D. In particular, *inserting* the card should not hard at all. It is possible your card a little thick, though. Have you tried another card?

Welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy your camera.

As for your comment about the card, do a search here and you'll find others that have made the same observation. I have the K20D and haven't noticed this, but it seems like it may be linked to card brands and types. Check the threads here and see what they say. It may be that you'll need to stick to a couple of specific brands, though it shouldn't be that way.

Anyhoo....welcome to the madhouse! Enjoy your camera and post some shots every now and then.

I have one memory card, but for the life of me can't find it at the moment, which is a little fatter than the rest, and while it is not stiff going in, is very slow coming out of my K10D

I think it is a Core Micro 2 GB. and the issue is the thickness of the lable on the front

Thank you all for the information, but in my concern as to the amount of pressure it took to put the card in place I contacted the vender and asked for a replacement of which they agreed to honor!

It would not even pop out after pressing it in (the memory card) to release it. But now that I know that this is common to the cameras weather sealing, hopefully I will have a better understanding of how the camera functions when hopefully I receive the replacement!

Also I will look to the forum for additional information on memory cards, for help on this issue, again apologies as not only am I new to digital photography but to forums aswell!!!

k200d is a good camera and you will enjoy it thoroughly provided you do not look into the rumour section.

Welcome to the forum.
