Terminology Question

Earlier this month I upgraded to DSLR with the purchase of a K100D. After a few years using a PnS, it is nice to get familiar again with my old lenses from my K1000 days.

As I have been learning more about my camera, I have been reading many of the threads on this website. While I am familiar with most terms, I have seen one used numerous times and I just don't remember seeing it used before.

It is "IQ." Can someone explain this term?

Image quality.
A term thrown around to summarise the overall performance of a lens.
Sharpness throughout the frame, Colour rendition, Contrast, Bokeh, Chromatic aberration, Purple fringing, amongst other properties of a lens.

Generally speaking, a fixed focal lens has a better IQ than a zoom, but zooms are getting better.

Excellent list. I'm glad to see some one has taken time to make this up in print. Great job. I think we need to post this in our search and FAQ section for easy use.
