Schooling?

Are any of you graduates of accredited photography schools?

I am strongly thinking of enrolling with the New York Institute of Photography.

Your thoughts?

Tom

Hi Tom, I was looking at NYIP, I didn't know they were accredited so please correct me if I'm wrong on that, I'd be interested to have that info.
You can see my thoughts on NYIP in this thread: Photography school info

Let me know if your research has come up with anything different on them.

The enrollment information I received in the mail states as follows;

Q - Is the school licensed and accredited?

A - Yes. NYI is licensed be the New York State Department of Education...

A - NYI is accredited by the Distance Education Training Council (DETC - DETC ) which was founded in 1928 to promote sound educational standards and ethical business practices.

Now, it this worth the paper it is written on? I dunno!?!

Thanks for the update Tom. Did you read my comments from the other thread? I just felt that it was too much of the business side and not enough actual photography.
Did the information you received from them outline the course fully? ie is there any evidence there to suggest my gut feeling was wrong?

I have been looking at schools as well besides taking private lessons, this is the one I was looking at and they are also heavy on the buis. side as well but it is important to know that as well. Hallmark Institute of Photography / Photography School their course is fairly detailed on the site also my instructor recommended Main media workshops, Theworkshops.com this looked interesting as well and was less buis. directed. good luck with your choice.
