Pano aspect ratio?

Does a pano have a specific aspect ratio? or do you just crop it where ever you like?
Or stitch together as many shots as you like?

There is no aspect ratio for a pano. You just go for what you like and hope everybody else likes it.

Generally about 1:3, but this isn't a hard and fast rule.

3:1 is a reasonable ratio. I don't typically do single row panos, so mine vary depending on how many shots I take, and how many rows I shoot.

This one is about 4:1

I suppose I poorly phrased that. 3:1 would be the minimum accepted ratio. If you remember those film panoramic disposable cameras, or the panoramic switch on the film compacts (35mm or APS) they cropped the neg down to ~3:1.

I wouldn't consider anything with a shorter ratio to be a panoramic, but certainly anything longer is.

Something to consider is the available print sizes at your local printers. The longest available near me is 8x24, which means if my panos are any longer they have to either be cropped or printed smaller on the paper.
