k100d focus question

while trying to take a photo of my dog , the camera focuses on his eyes but everything else is out of focus , how can i increase the area for the auto focus to focus on

If I understand you correctly, you shoot with a very large aperture which means a narrow depth of field. To increase your depth of field, you will have to stop down your lens.

I also recommend reading 'Understanding exposure' by Bryan Peterson. It explains all the basics of aperture, shutter and iso. A very good read for a beginner. (I've read it myself )
