Flash over exposure

I'm using a DS with a smc F50 f1.7 lens and a sigma ef500 DG ST flash.
Info; P, ISO 200, AWB.

When I using the above the photo's come out over exposed, when I shot without the flash there isn't a problem as the photos are sharp as they can be.

when I change to EX24 to 70 f2.8 with same body and flash, and the info is the same the photo's come out correctly.

Is there something I'm missing when I'm setting up the camera.

Cheers

Since the DS suports both TTL and P-TTL flashes, the flash type shouldn't be a problem.

If your lens set to "A" on the aperture ring? Have you set an EV shift? Is the flash intensity too high? Are you too close to the subject?

Thanks Mo

The lens is set to A, no EV shift,
I think the flash intensity is to high how would tone it down?
