Yashica Lenses On a K10D

Hello Everyone, I was just able to pick up some nice Yashica glass and two film bodys for $50.00. I was wondering if eaither the screw mount or bayonet mount will work on my K10D or are there adapters (maybe?)? What I got for the money was a FX-2 works fine ran two rolls of film through it right after purchace needs to be cleaned though, a TL-Electro which I have had one for about 30 years and still works (the "new" one needs work), a YUS 2.8 135 lens very happy with it used it today, Yashica 1.9 50 lens (need to take apart and clean fungus any good tips?), YUS 2.8 28 looks new in box, 2.0 50 on the TL my lens is a 1.9 and last but not least a Asanuma auto-zoom 4.5 90-230 with hard case and tripod mount looks lightly used, these were from a ladies estate in newport so we (the family and I) took a trip pick up the toys and tried them out, Yes the K10 went to.

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

Also picking up a FA 50 / 1.4 tomorrow night after work. My Wife is going to KILL me. $150.00

will post some comparison photos later.

Congratulations on the "new" cameras and lenses. The screw thread lenses will fit using the Pentax screw thread adpter (use only the Pentax brand). The bayonets won't fit. Don't know of any Yashica to Pentax bayonet adapter. Some people modify lenses to fit other mounts. Then they wouldn't work on original mount.
thanks

Tell me more about the 135? I have a DX 135/2.8 screw mount - it's got the silver accents and a built in hood. Mid to late 60s vintage (I have a 1968 ad that has a group photo of them all... hmm maybe I'll attach it here).

I have mixed feelings about mine - partly because I'm not such a telephoto guy, partly because the lens seems temperamental so far. It's capable of good resolution, but also strange behavior with contrast and bokeh. I am glad I bought it rather than the Tak 135/3.5 that was my other choice. (I'm sad that the Tak wasn't there any longer when I came back a month later)

On that second visit I found a Yashinon DX 28/2.8, also silver trimmed, in a cardboard box of miscellany, anything for $15. I like the 28 a lot.

The bayonet won't work unless you modify the camera mount, or change the mount to K.

And then the lens will need a slight infinity adjustment...

Thank you all for the replies, the Yashica brand is dear to me since it is the first SLR I ever purchaced and it is still working today, so when I saw the ad I had to check out these pieces and I'm glad I did. I will buy the pentax adapter I was concerned about the pin on the mount, I will probably buy two adapters one for the m42 the other as a template to have an adapter machined.

The 135 lens is in the bayonet mount as well as the 50 1.9 (with fungus) and the 28 2.8. The screw mounts are 50 2.0 and a asanuma auto-zoom 90-230 4.5, after a quick search I guess this was a Tokina owned brand have not tried it yet.

If you could email me a copy of that ad I would appreciate it, btw I bought the camera at a camera store in Somerville, N.J. as I grew up in Piscataway.

The Pictures above the first is the Yashica FX-2 with the 135 and the second is the K10D with a Pentax 18-250, the meter was not working in the FX the battery was dead so I had to wing it.

Too bad they're bayonets, but then, it makes the whole orphan thing worth while even more - ie. screw mounts are holding price or going up, but true orphan mounts just sit there. So you're really doing a service

You can simply go to my flicr page and download a full size copy of the ad. I have a few others in there, miscellaneous old papers and ads that every now and then I scan in.

I have a Yashinon 50/1.4 DS-M. When I was cleaning it I discovered a white oxide on the coating on the rear element. It's really only visible when I shine a bright light in through from the front, but I think that's a fair test, since the sun probably produces the same effect. I tried cleaning it with ROR, Eclipse, vinegar and Windex. None of them would take it off. Then I made the mistake of leaving some drops of Windex to sit for a few minutes; it wicked down around the rear element and formed a fog in the air space in front of it. Now I have a very low contrast, flare-prone-like-you-wouldn't-believe lens. I gave up on it. Now it's a body cap for one of my unused M42 bodies. Too bad; I was going to do a compare and contrast with my 50/1.4 Super-Tak but it wasn't any contest after that.

Very cool stuff I will visit again when I have more time. It would have been nice if they were all screw mount but I'll take it, at least it wasn't a wasted trip or $50.00 I was happy with the performance of the FX-2 with no cleaning or anything just loaded the film and shot and hoped for the best.

This is a Yashica DSB 50 1.9 lens and I have not quite decided what I'm going to do with it yet the growth appears to be near the front. Not to bragg but I can repair a lot of things but I may send this out because I'm affraid of messing this up, maybe I'll look at it as a sience project and see if I can do it. What is best to clean them with I guess would be my question?

Hi Bob,

according to this page,
Yashica lens comments
the 2.8/28 DSB is really bad - it's just in Italian but they say avoid at all costs :-(
The 1.9/50 DSB is not mentioned, but the ML version is heavily criticized.
DSB versions are said to be the same as YUS versions.

Why would I be so cruel and condemn your beautiful lenses?

Well, just to let you know that you can get very much better lenses from Yashica than the DSB's, and they don't cost a fortune.

I have not tried M42-Yashinons (maybe I can resist), but have the Y/C-mount ML 1.7/50 and an ML 1.4/50 in the queue. And of course you can get some trusty Contax lenses for Y/C-mount like Carl Zeiss Planars and Distagons. These are quite easily converted to Pentax-K-mount. But, an even easier conversion is to file down part of the rear of the Pentax-DSLR's camera bayonet mount, see
Adaptation d'objectifs via des bagues [Topic Unique] - Objectifs - Photo numérique - FORUM HardWare.fr
(let it load, then reload once and you'll be right at the bayonet pic).

I plan to do it on a K100D but haven't so far. It would be possible then to put some Prakticar-lenses on the cam, all Y/C lenses, Nikon lenses etc. (see for yourself in the link).

Before tinkering you can put any Y/C lens handheld into your DSLR and take some test pics with it. Just make sure that protruding parts on the lenses' back will be on the bottom.

And btw your DSB/YUS lenses can take decent pictures, I'm sure. And, you can disassemble the 50 without being too anxious about it :-) As how to clean it, just disassemble and clean the glass with Isopropyl-alcohol and distilled water (70/30 mix). Try to get this in a pharmaceutical quality, and cotton swabs without any grease, the 'natural' stuff (this is my opinion, no scientific evidence).

Good luck, Georg

PPS edit: Another backslide LBA-wise: The flea market had a mint M42-Auto-Yashinon-DX 1.7/50 (silver front) for grabs, so I took it. Stunning lens, already at wide open very good
