Problems shooting red flowers

I have posted this on the other list i belong to, but would like to see if any one here
has any ideas.

I find, shooting red flowers, tulips etc, that i rarely get a good shot.

Colours are muddled, over saturated colours missing.

Shoot a yellow or pink or purple etc flower, all is fine.

Any ideas, or is it just me.

Camera was K10D, lens DAF 50, AWB, shot as jpg.

I cannot remember if i have this problem with my Nikons, i'm still looking at old folders to see.

In my experience nearly all digital cameras - and auto settings on scanners - have trouble with the red on green thing. I'd love to hear how others get past this as well.

As Nesster said, this problem is common with most digital equipment of this sort.

My simple solution is to shoot RAW and under-expose by half a stop (sometimes -1 EV), and de-saturate the red channel by a very tiny margin in post-processing.

I pretty much do the same as ftpaddict. Depending on the light etc I dial in either -1/3 or -2/3 EV and shoot raw. I do the opposite for white flowers.

Overly saturated and false reds is common to CCD type sensors.
Set the image tone to Natural. This usually gives pretty accurate colour rendition before you do any post processing.

I deal with the same thing. Ive only managed to get one decent flower and its still a bit oversaturated.

Well after looking at the suggestions here and over at my other list,. iput a few into field practice.

The underexposing and desaturation of the red channel seems to work out the best. Fill flash, off camera did little to help.
