Hand Held Meter

I have one vestige of my film days left: a Sekonic light meter. I have not used it when shooting with my K10, but wonder if anyone has and, if so are there any oddities that I might be forwarned about before I go out and try it out?

I went out with an old Kalimar meter last winter, and it seemed to work VERY well, I set the camera to the exact settings the meter recommened. Here are a few examples..

If your meter will do incident light metering, it will be much, much better than the built in meter. Otherwise, it is just another reflective meter, and will pretty well duplicate the center weighted metering in camera.

Last year I got my first old unmetered camera and shelled out for a Sekonic L-208 meter, which is compact and very handy to have around.

A month or so ago my wife brought me something she had found in a box and wanted to know what it was. It was my old Sekonic L-188 that I got a quarter century ago and had assumed was lost, since a search of my old camera bag in the US had revealed it to be missing.

I was as glad to get it back as if I had met a long-lost friend. But I do wish she had found it before I bought a replacement.

Now I'm having the internal argument of "I want a flashmeter" versus "I don't need a flashmeter".

I had a feeling the results might be a little different. It was always better with the LX and ZX-5n. I hope the weather is suitable this weekend to get out and do my own comparisons.
