Well done, RiceHigh...

See this thread:

"Considering Pentax, but RiceHigh opinions vs. user Results"

From thread appears that this guy isn't the only one whom you scared away by the overly gloomy, unbalanced and negative tone of your blog.

Pentax isn't the only manufacturer he's torpedoed! He has a reputation for hyperbole (EXTREME exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally) His "style" is to get a camera setup, whine and complain and run it into the ground and then move on to the next victim before someone gets too wise to him. He NEVER publishes any real photos, just extreme, technical opinions (you can't even call them tests) finding all the faults with a system and scaring off the unaware reader! Someone needs to put a muzzle on this guy!

I would reply on that thread.... but I don't have the time to read them all.

I think that Rice means well, he just lets his negative emotions control him.

He probably just has to get away from big city life for a while, sit back, snap some pictures and enjoy himself.

Rice, if you can make it out to British Columbia Canada in the next while let me know ahead of time, and I'll take you through some Prime scenery. If that doesn't clear your mind I don't know what will.

I agree Stu.

He gets too technical with all facets of the camera and equipment.

What he is really missing out on is getting out there and "enjoying" photography itself ... what it is meant to do is get you out there and snapping away ... something he doesn't seem to do.

Yeah some of the technical aspects are interesting ... but what is more interesting is to find a really nice subject/area ... and having fun with the camera ... and sharing some of your experiences while out there by posting up some examples.

Let's be honest, RH is a jerk.

He wouldn't know scientific methodology if he fell over it.

He describes himself as a "Measurebator" - I presume that is just misspelt and he really has gone blind! (as in "Stop it or you'll go blind")

LoL I'm surprised how alot of people seem to get so easily convinced by RH's Pentax Blog and yet...notice little of Canon and Nikon's large price premiums particularly if any OEM Alphabits are wanted on the lens collar, quality control issues, crippling of equipment to match price points, and a slew of other bad business practices (Canon seeming worse here than Nikon).

But it impresses me every time he is mentioned the thread will get lots of posts.

Imagine posting 2 threads both with the same content, worrying about the AF system of pentax cameras, but with one change:
"a collegue at work told me the af system wasnt good"
to
"I read in this guy rh's blog the af system is no good"

which one do u think will get more replies

Funny to watch, and always so many people posting things like "I never let his comments bother me" "I just ignore any claims coming from him" "Just ignore him". But they could not resist posting that themselves.

ROTRL, You couldn't have hit the nail more Squarely if you tried. Years ago when I first encountered Rice on the DP review forum I didn't know quite what to think. but after reading his first post and reading the boiling froth that was created I soon realized He was just a Jerk that didn't realize what good was. It is true that there are some things in his blog that hold Merritt. But they are so few and far between. After reading the entire thread (that you the OP posted) and the responses I think Ben Luzart was (is) so attuned to calling a spade a spade. Truly I have no problems with Mike on a personal level but his blog should come with a warning (This Blog Could Be Hazardous to ones intelligence, Or written By a Nut With no Photographic experience.)

I learned very early (im still new) that he was an idiot and decided to ignore his blog and posts. He is more concerned with statistics and measurements rather than the art of photography and thats the sad part. It is ultimately down to the phtoograph that is taken.

Many many many great photos were taken with absolute shite gear. Its about the phtotographer seeing something that perhaps others dont see and is able to capture and distill that time and place into an image that can be shared. Everything else is really irrelevant.

Well, prospective DSLR buyers aren't doing enough homework if they're gonna stop at one blog and make their decision based on that.

I know I pored through almost everything I could find about the choices available to me before settling down for a K10D. And yes, that included RiceHigh's negative posts.

In any case, RiceHigh is slowly being found out to be a fraud by most people, especially now that the K10D's winning awards left and right, as well as garnering rave reviews. Even the naive casual buyer would place more weight on big awards than a blog by someone who's not even a known pro photographer.

Pentax is on it's way, with or without RiceHigh's negativity. No worries.
