Although the local photography store can't seem to keep Pentax gear on the shelves, I have yet to see another Pentax shooter in the wild. I mostly see Nikon shooters during my local travels.
I'm always surprised how few people with a Pentax I run into considering how many gazillions of K100's are being sold in big box stores and all over the place.

Last time I checked, none of the big box stores in my area (Gainesville/Ocala, FL) had any K100s or any Pentax bodies, for that matter, although if I remember correctly, I did see a stray 50-200 at Circuit City in Gainesville. Neither Ritz or the local camera stores in the area carry the digital bodies (the local store in Gainesville does carry 2 or 3 film bodies along with a few film lenses--the closest thing they have to a Pentax DSLR are a couple of Samsung DSLRs).
Whenever I get ready to buy a new body, I'll have to get it from elsewhere, which is probably nowhere near me.
Last weekend, I wanted to try out a new lens. So my wife and I decided to go to the zoo. While I was there I noticed a Canon user with his white zoom lens. I looked at him, he looked at me with a strange look - perhaps a sneer. Then we both looked away.
Later on I met another Canon user. This time with a more basic lens. It must have been a kit lens and the photographer was decidely more relaxed and friendly.
As we were leaving the zoo - headed towards the exit, I crossed paths with a friendly Nikon user with a tripod quick release attached to the bottom of his camera. His camera was hung around his neck by a normal strap. But - he smiled and passed by without any negative expressions.
It is funny how snobbish some people are about their cameras. The first user was the worst example of a Canon snob. You could see in his attitude how he looked down on a lowly Pentax user.
I like to see who is shooting what camera, and what lens. But it isn't a contest. Nobody knows my skills or lack of skills by the hardware I tote around with me. Any fool with a credit card can buy a camera and lenses. The images that are produced are the result of skill, practice, study, and to some extent natural ability.
Do I think that any of these photographers had any skills with their cameras? Yes - one. The Nikon user had a tripod quick release on the bottom of his camera. That said to me that he was interested in a sharp photo. He knows what the limitations of photography are, and how to deal with them. Is that judgemental, or just good observations?
LOL. Agreed. And preferably two versions - one featuring a man and one featuring a woman. In fact, just for the fun of it, I may work on a series of these (featuring various models in various dress and locations) over the coming summer.

Kind of like Jan's UPS girl on DPreview. Now that would be a great recruiting poster. (well for the men anyway) but you all know of course the best recruiting you do is being there with your Pentax in hand, a friendly smile and the knowledge of your camera and the willingness to give straight answers to those who question.
when some one ask you Why Pentax give them all the information and differences not just That's all I could afford. Be Pentax proud with out being a Snob.
Pentaxians here are planning to have stickers made that says: the few, the loud and the proud. Then the Pentax logo underneath... I'm planning to stick it on my red van, my red macbook and a patch made for my red backpack LOL Time to make some noise!

My thoughts exactly. Heck, if Pentax won't advertise, why can't we. In fact, I've just posted a challenge in the Mini-challenge forum to submit photos using the slogan...

bumper stickers were one of the thoughts I had too... Btw, leadbelly, where is "here"? Your profile doesn't list your location.
@MRRiley: Oh...my bad Here in the Philippines... we have a "Pentax Users Roll Call" in one of our local photography forums. We thought we'd number not more than 20, but lo and behold, we now number to a very respective 92!
OT: I attended an open shoot two weeks ago where I was the lone Pentaxian, the Canikonaks who were there asked me, "why are you here? why aren't with your fellow Pentaxians?" This is one of the reasons why us Pentaxians here stick together... btw, we do have ourselves our own official Pentaxian in Dr. Mark Dimalanta, a Filipino Pentaxian who is one of the featured photographers in the Pentaxian.com site! Whenever he comes home (he is based in Huntington Beach) we make it a point to set a "general assembly" of all Pentaxians to meet him and swap stories
We'll I haven't seen any Pentax DSLR's lately but for the first time ever (and I travel a lot), I saw, on a very busy main roadway, a Pentax (drum roll) Billboard! I've noticed a lot more Pentax ads in magazines I wouldn't expect them to be in as well. Seems they are also trying to get the word out.
My Pentax Frums bumper stickers are on a tripod leg, notebook lid and of course the back of the car as well.
i see someone shooting pentax once in a blue moon. probably some of the one's ive seen are pop photo staff memebers....
I see somone holding up a dslr, or an slr, i usually look to see what they have, mostly canon, or nikon straps..I got excited once when i saw someone w/ a k10 and a 50-135....
Despite living in The Motherland, I've only ever seen ONE other person using a Pentax. I am sad to report that it was this guy
Mike.... If you decide to take part in the The Few, The Proud, The PENTAXIANS! challenge, you cannot use THAT photo.... LOL... That guy needs to have his camera confiscated...
You should have been there to see the befuddled and annoyed look on his face as he tried using the zoom ring with the hood petals getting in the way. He looked at the lens like, "What moron designed this thing anyway?"
It really wasn't a case of a guy just arriving on the scene and grabbing a couple of quick shots before turning the hood around. He seriously had not the slightest clue about the lens hood.
