Notebook/Netbook

This may seem a bit trivial to most, but when it comes to computers I am rather uninformed.

Could one of you knowledgeable guys please advise me :What is the difference between a Notebook and a Netbook, in computer terminology.??

Would be be a great help to my blind daughter if you could give me a bit of advice in simple terms.

Thanks a lot

Bruce,

I'm in the business and have never heard of anything referred to as a "netbook". Notebook, laptop, tablet, yes... but not netbook.

"netbook" is a term used for a small notebook style computer specifically designed with email and netsurfing applications in mind. A "notebook" is generally a portable computer that will perform like a desktop computer. see wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netbook

Heres an example of a "netbook":

Sylvania G Netbook Notebook PC - VIA C7-M ULV Processor 1.2GHz, 802.11bg Wireless, 1GB DDR2, 30GB HDD, 7" WVGA, Integrated Webcam, Linux Based gOS Operating System GNET13001 at TigerDirect.com

"netbooks" usually have minimal ram, a slower processor and are about 1/2-3/4 the size of a notebook. hope this helps

Netbooks are as named basically for net only use, if you need storage you'll need to sometimes add a DVD player/burner, they're now coming out with more "feature filled" ones but they cost as much as a notebook now.

Since she's blind, keyboard size would be very important, that's not going to happen with the current Netbooks.

You're better off going with a Notebook with one generation older processor unless she needs the speed? the one advantage if you can call it so; that netbooks have other that smaller footprint, is the solid state HD they have although very small in capacity compared to Notebooks.
