Legal issues for Photographers in Australia (also should apply elsewhere)

4020 Φ NSW Photographer's Rights

For those who have ever wondered what the law says then this doc is fantastic.

I am really glad to have stumbled on this paper and it has lots of great references to legal cases and tips.

While this is a paper from australia, i am sure it applies generally around the world and it also refers to the US is some parts.

Please read if you have some time.

Cheers
Neil

According to the article, one big difference between the US and Australia (at least NSW) appears to be that lacking a bill of rights means that private managers of public property (as with La Salle at DC's Union Station) are considered to have the same control over the property as if it were private.

This means that if Union Station was in NSW, AU they would be completely in their rights to deprive the public of it's free and unfettered access to the station. Banning or restricting photography would be totally within their rights.

Thank goodness that particular concept isn't in force here, no matter how much the La Salle's of the world would like to believe.
