Warning this is a Rant

I have to start apologizing to everyone that uses the marketplace and sells and buys things. I have bought all most all of me lens off the marketplace I have only one lens from a store so it is a great thing. Here is the rant part , when someone is selling a lens please respect the fact that they may be willing to ship it locally at no cost to the buyer. The idea that a seller anywhere would be willing to ship internationally or next day at their own expense is unheard of to me. When we see someone reduce the price they are asking for the lens it is not a green light to ask for free shipping as well. Have had this experience with several sales now and have to admit that it is a little unsettling. Ok enough of my rant thank you all for reading this whomever looks.

A simple "No" would suffice!

To be honest, for me it's normal that buyer is paying for shipment. It's not sellers fault that buyer cannot come personally to take his what_ever_he's_buying.

Altough, when I ordered my K10D with 18-55/50-200, folks at Pentax Croatia payed shipment for me! I didn't expect that since I have always paid shipment for anything ordered out of my city, and this was very nice from them, really pleasant surprise! Big kudos for Pentax, once again
Sorry for off topic

having a large corporation ship stuff to you for free on on their behalf is cost effective

they have cheaper rates, pickup, and maybe even perks for using a particular parcel delivery system

for someone selling their junk out of their house, the act of shipping anything is time consuming, esp if one has to do it for cheap.

unless you have a postal office within walking distance or you are an avid cyclist, getting to a post office means money, and time, probably a good half hour is to be wasted processing a package.

and people want this act done for free?? i agree with the original poster, "assuming" that shipping is included when its not obviously stated is poor form.

I agree. I do a lot of selling on Ebay (cuz I like to sell "junk" from my house) and hate doing the shipping piece. Shipping price isn't included because I don't know where you live, how fast you want it, whether you want it insured, and if you want it packaged a particular way.

The price is the price. Shipping and import fees are the responsibility of the buyer.

I have bought from Marketplace and ebay extensively and I believe that the buyer pays the postage is a given fact. If the seller wants to pay postage it is only if that offer is made in the first instance.
To request free postage after or during the settling of a deal is rather presumptuous and even rude in my opinion.
Then again if you want to try it on, go for it, and lose a little of friends in the meantime.
I always request cost of postage etc prior to deciding on a purchase, particularly if purchasing overseas.

Shipping costs vary greatly depends on the location and insurance amount. Just something cannot be predetermined.

And another reason, too... when the buyers pays for shipping, it's a damn good reason for sales to not be CONUS only... I'm sure all of us HI+AK people will agree.

I completely agree that the buyer should incur any and all shipping costs. I find it unsettling when seller does "Paypal Only" then charges the buyer the fee. The Paypal fees are the seller's convenience/piece of mind fee.

Whenever I sell something online I make it clear what the shipping arrangement are. Those are the terms, if you don't like don't buy the item. Simple.

I understand economic times are a little rough but have to ask would anyone think of ever offering there price to a seller if the add didnt say offers welcome? One of the people pm me sent me an email asking if I would lower the price an additional $40 and he would buy it from me. Man the nerve of people these days. Respectfully told him no and he can spend the extra $200 to get the DG version of the lens

Warning this is an anti-Rant

The view from the other side of the mountain.

As the buyer, I have to consider the TOTAL cost to me. If I buy a lens for $50.00 with $10.00 shipping, or for $40.00 with 20.00 shipping or $60.00 with FREE shipping, the cost to me is the same. Or maybe I can go down the road and buy it in a store for $46.30 + $3.70 tax. Total $50.00. Wait a minute. Gas for the vehicle, + other operational costs. We're back at $60.00, maybe more.

Anyway, as the potential buyer, I will continue to make offers which state "I offer you $XX.XX which includes shipping and handling". So don't get your panties in a wad.

Anyway, none of this applies to our brothers from Australia. The water draining from their bathtubs swirls backwards. Lots of other strange stuff. I mean, have you ever seen a Duck-billed Platypus?

Your Honor, we have no further witnesses to call. We rest our case.

Nobody is forcing you to buy from an online seller. You do the math and consider gas prices, time spent etc, and then YOU decide if you want to buy online or from a brick & mortar flea market.

If you go for the online seller, you go for his/her rules. If you don't want it, don't worry! Someone else will.

If the seller is accepting offers there is no problem with the buyer making an offer that the seller pays shipping, the seller can tell them no. The only problems are when the seller states they are firm on the price or when the buyer just assumes the shipping is free and get upset that they have to pay.

.
my only question is why should we expect the person that is selling the item to absorb the cost of shipping it to us? I look at it as the person has to go out to the ups store or the mail and use their gas, their time and their money to send me something that I am not willing to pay shipping for? No business will ship to you for free, heck if you order from amazon you are not only paying shipping but you are also paying part of their employees wage (the handling charge )
