I thought for manga you had to have either green or pink hair and have eyes the size of dinner plates.

that could apply to so many things today japanese or not. I think manga (though don't quote me as I am not into any of this) is a more 'adult' (not always pornographic) long comic style story.

The term 漫画 (manga) has nothing to do with either length, content, or target audience age. There are children's manga as well as adult (non-porn and porn) manga, there are ladies' manga, and there is 四駒漫画 (yon-koma "four panel" manga).

At least, that is the case in Japanese. How the meaning of the word has been altered by adoption into English is something I don't know about, since the manga craze in the West started long after I left.

Sort of like how the photographers of the world have adopted the term ボケ (boke....inexplicably mistransliterated as "bokeh") with a far narrower usage than it has in Japanese.

Isn't it amazing how almost all of those police sketches look the same?

I've always been amazed how they can arrest people based on them... though funny enough that pic actually does look like me.
