What you CAN'T take into the Republican Convention

Linked from Powerline Blog (Power Line) this photo of a sign at the security line for the Republican Convention, describing the Prohibited Items.

Note 3rd from the top and 3rd from the bottom (camera CASES?)

I was thinking that any DSLR with a pancake lens should be fine looking at that sign.

I think the 4 inches rule is specifically for political conventions, it stops the politicians from feeling inadequate.

Four inches in what dimension? Rather vague, must've been a politician's idea!

that would exclude the delegates

But seriously, they are not concerned aboout the ability to take images, only the physical size of things and the ability to hide items. There are many P&S cameras (mine included) with a relatively fast (F3.2) 380mm equivelent lens, that would be allowed.

Can I take in lens cleaning fluid? Does it have to be less than three ounces?

If you do take in lens cleaning fluid, be sure to encase it in a transparent quart-sized ziploc baggie. In addition, remove sed baggie from personal belongings prior to a rigorous screening by half-asleep security workers.

So I guess the K10D and the Bigma are OUT!

Btw, the Dems don't like cameras either... Their camera policy:

"Cameras with lenses less than 75mm and small hand-held video cameras are permitted, provided they do not obstruct the view of other attendees. Professional cameras or any other audio/video recording equipment are not allowed to be brought in to the stadium unless the user has the appropriate Convention press credential."

I'm an independant and neither side would let me anywhere near a convention...
