I wish I had the extra funds available. I'd pick one up in a heartbeat.
There were some interesting comments made about this camera sale. This was the best.
my buddy just picked up a canon sd870 is off of craigslist for $70. no way i'd pay more than $40 for a pentax, no matter how many zooms or pixels it has
Here are a few more from the seemingly uninformed.
I've owned a Pentax before. In fact, I bought 2; one for me and one for another member of my family. While I don't remember which models they were, they did cost a lot. I would not buy one of these again for said reasons.
An annoyance that I find with these pentax digital cameras is the fact that the quality of the camera gets worse the longer you use it. I am not sure if this is the case with current pentax cameras, but it really bugged the hell out of me. After extensive use, the printed words and letters on the camera started to come off, and the silver parts of the camera also started to peel off. These cameras seem cheaply made. I would stick with a better known brand.
Yes, absolutely the buyer should beware. But this isn't a Canon DSLR, as you stated it's a Woot camera. I'm just trying to give people options. Another, more reputable option would be to try batteryspace.com. Still, I'm sure the manufacturer will insist on using an OEM battery if something happens to your camera (seriously, though, how often do batteries fry cameras?).
It is NOT a Woot! camera; it is a camera being sold AT Woot!
The fact that is is being sold by Woot! carries no significance, outside of the fact you only pay a $5 shipping charge. The warranty is offered by the 'maker' Pentax.
It is a pity that Pentax is not considered a quality product these days, when I was younger and into photography - Pentax was right up there with Canon as a premium camera. I guess their 'rep' has taken some hits - pity.
And a few good one.
Pentax has never been nor will ever be a "low-end" brand. I currently own 3 Pentax camera systems and they have all performed magnificently over the years.
I started with a manual Pentax Asahi Spotmatic SLR manufactured in 1967. I still use this camera to this day. I got my first auto-focus Pentax SLR the ZX-50 in 1998 and today, ten years later, I use my Pentax K20d. A top-of-the-line DSLR with all the expected features (by the way, if anyone's interested the K20D is down to $999 - this is a 15mp DSLR with in-camera noise reduction and live view to name some of the highlights).
I digress. I have also had a Pentax point and shoot digital camera. That was the Pentax Optio 330GS (a whopping 3mp). I am positive that this Woot is an EXCELLENT deal and definitely blows away Canon/Nikon in the point & shoot category.
wow... since when did pentax become a "lower end" brand? i would rather buy a pentax than buying a canon. my first point and shoot was pentax. don't remember the model but it was a 3mp digi. it cost like 500 USD at that time.
i still like pentax. i would definitely buy one but i am into slr a little bit more right this moment. so i will pass tonight.
Seriously - nice woot! Pentax has come a long way back from their quality issues they had a few years ago. 5X zoom and the rechargeable battery totally overcome any color issues I might have.
Which one of you said this?
Why is anyone comparing this to a SLR? Pentax makes the k20d. It's a great camera, best in it's class. Ignore anyone that says Pentax doesn't make a quality product.
Found this one interesting as well.
yeah, whatever happened to the Pentax rep? Did someone buy them or something? I "graduated" from Minoltas to Canon A-1's when I was 35 mm'ing.... eons ago. But Pentax was a contender.
Nowadays, if it doesn't say Sony or Canon or Nikon it's "2nd class". Why?
