I dont think there is too much to be gained by starting an AFL v NRL discussion.
They are both great games, in their own right, albeit we each have our preferences.
For me its the Cats and the Knights to triumph!!
At least Footie keeps the mind off politics, recession, terrorism etc etc, and in that there has to be great value
For me it's the Dragons and the Swans. Both red and white.
That marvellous time of the year when we wonder (well those of use that follow the Great Game do) will the DEMONS finally taste victory, are the DOCKERS going to play footy or fight, will the SWANS soar over the EAGLES, can the CROWS short circuit the POWER yet again, we already know that the BLUES can kick a TIGERS butt (dodgy hammy & all), but can the CATS regain a little pride by beating the HAWKS, the BULLDOGS are snarling, the LIONS have been told to roar again by the Lion King, will the SAINTS halo shine brightly or will the BOMBERS detonate, it is all happening in a land where the KANGAROO wants to stand tall......but the pesky MAGPIE threatens to swoop.
Yep, it IS footy season in Australia.
Cheers.
Just for a bit of fun (and if anyone wants to add something similar for the other codes....please feel free to do so) I thought an early season update is in order. For our Nthn hemisphere friends this is about Australian Rules Football (locally known as "footy") and this is the teams knick names....and this will make no sense what so ever.
A bit of backround for you, The Hawks are the reigning champs, who beat the Cats in last years Grand Final upset. The Saints have been promising something for a long time now and The Demons have been cellar dwellers for a few years and the rest are somewhere inbetween.
So this what has happened so far in 2009. (written in code for Aussie Rules fans )
The CATS are purring loudly at the top of the table but the champs dicky groin (no pun intended) is a worry and the SAINTS halo is also shining brightly, not yet tarnished by defeat; the BOMBERS have lift off and are a force to be wary of and many have been zapped by the POWER. SWANS can fly afterall, but the EAGLES are a bit shaky on the wing and DOCKERS may be working out the balance between brawn & brain; there is a plaintive LIONS roar but it is deep within the northern jungle which turns to a meoww when it travels, the TIGER looked impressive in the pre-season cage, but when the cage door opened ....nothing came out. The CROW continues to annoy but is no real threat, just a nuisnace to be watched and BULLDOGs lost its bite. The BLUES actually have the blues but will be a force when they stop reading their own press and the HAWK struggles on, on a broken wing, will it heal come September? The MAGPIE still struts but its swoop is haphazard and the DEMONS have become comfortable with their lot in life and as for the KANGAROO..? will it truly become extinct? (in football terminology folks)......and its only Round 7.

I saw a photo above where two guys are hugging and trying to kiss...and do other things...to ANOTHER guy.
Man, your sports are GAY!!!
I guess you haven't heard of John Hopoate then....(he's not from AFL, the sport that they above guys are talking about, but from the other code, the NRL)....
