Noticeably Reduced Tension In the Forums

Anyone else noticed that there is less bickering and more amiable commentary on the forum lately?

I contend that in the winter when many of us are shooting less we tend to "stew" more. Now that spring has arrived in the N. Hemisphere, we are all shooting again or planning to shoot soon and attitudes reflect the positive influence our photo hobby has on our collective mentality. This is a very good thing as the forums were fairly snippy this winter--yes, me too (or even "me especially"). But the past 30 days seems to be a "change-over" period attitudinally. For example, there doesn't seem to be a single recent "Pentax is stupid" thread running right now.

In my wholesale boat biz, we joke about the fact that boat dealers have nothing positive to say all winter--negative, negative, negative...gripe, gripe, gripe. As soon as the boat shows get going and the dealers start to have business again, they get cheery and nice again. I'm convinced we saw a similar phenomenon on our forum this winter. What do you think? Am I nuts...rephrase that...am I nuts on this issue?

Is this an observation or a challenge?

Well, it started as an observation, but to make it a really fun challenge we'll need some measurement criteria...or maybe more free-form?

Who are you calling "stupid"?
Well I'll tell you where you can stick your boat!!

Hey. You may be right. My tension is suddenly reduced. Thank you Mr. Tobacconist.

Just goes to show you, there is always one jackpipe in the crowd. Trouble is I can never point him out.

well the Christmas tension died down, those 1 post oddballs bailed out, either because their cheaply bought pentax is collecting dust, or was passed on to some one else

the US elections are over

a few key members stopped posting all together

pentax raised their prices, so all the low-ballers looking for pro grade equipment are no longer as intrested in pentax as they were before

and i stopped bothering to tell idiots that they are idiots

i will point out that even though the level of bickering has been reduced, the level of worthwhile tech and technique discussion hasnt risen much

You're an idiot for doing that, I had so much fun moderating them. (you're comments that is, not the idiots)

I agree with all the comments posted in this thread, plus, PMA is over with and we have had time to get over the anti climax regarding the new Pentax camera.

When I saw this title, I was thinking the same thing, winter is over before I even opened this up. I work in the agricultural business. Same phenomenom happens with the farmers. The only worse time is when it rains just as the fields are almost ready to go. Then the coffee shops really come alive...

Gooshin, I noticed a decrease in your comments. I'm new around here and to the Pentax world, so I've mainly been reading to learn as much as I can. Granted, when I knew *nothing* I'd have to read what you said a couple times to figure out of you were serious or not, I've always enjoyed your comments.

people are not asking the right questions.

and the questions being asked should be consolidated into a "FAQ" and any subsequent reiteration of the most mundane questions should be locked with a friendly re-direction to said FAQ.

there was an automotive forum that i used to hang out at alot. Had some serious engineers in there at one point, eventually it got flooded with mindless repetitive crap, and they left. After awhile i got bored of answering the same questions and so i left. I poke my head once in awhile and its the same shit.

this forum does have good info, but its hard to get at, and its hidden deep within the heads of a handful of people.

i guess every forum needs a balance of n00b and technical details
if you just make everything FAQ's it does get rather impersonal, especially if you make stuff like FA31vsFA35vsDA35vsDA40vsFA50 or DA70vsFA77 and sticky it. although that's why getting a good search makes a big difference, if people get frustrated by the search, they'll just ask the same question again.

it does feel like there are more pictures than before
