I think where this may have the most effect is in the $600-1000 price bracket currently inhabited by the low-to-mid range DSLR models. Consumer Logic: Why spend $800 on a neutered Nikon or Canon DSLR camera when you can invest in one of these little cameras that will give you more for your money? It'll also be attractive to Canon G10 and Panasonic Lumix owners who like their $500 point and shoots for the size but want the flexibility and image quality of a DSLR.
On the whole I like Olympus and I hope they do well with these new cameras.
I think it's safe to say that your percentages are completely made up and have no bearing on actual consumer makeup.
"Normal" users probably aren't going to spend $500+ dollars on a camera. Gadget geeks that want a small, interchangable lens, large sensor camera will see the appeal. However, I doubt that most people looking for a digital camera will walk into a store or go online and appreciate the merits of such a camera enough to spend big money on one.

If they get it right, the Oly could be a hit with advanced amateurs and pros looking for a small travel and street camera. In this respect they outflank Pentax on the small side of things. Someone with a D3 or even a 5DmkII looking for something small will be more likely to go for a Micro43 than say a K7 or even a K2000 and a couple of pancake primes. I don't think it will have a lot of mainstream appeal however, unless the price is really low.
I don't think they really out flank the K-7. The K-7's intended to be a small SLR, not a generally small, pocket sized camera. This is. And while tons of hipsters will buy them as retro P&Ss, that doesn't take any business away from the K-7 because the K-7 wasn't on their radar to begin with. I think your other idea is more likely; serious shooters could well end up with both. A lot of film shooters used to own a decent rangefinder in addition to an SLR kit as a spare/casual camera, or for candids where the mirror noise would be an issue. But outside of the M8, there really hasn't been a digital equivalent until now. The Canon Gs and the Panny LX3 are nice, but the small sensor/poor high ISO performance kill them for a lot of serious uses/users. The DP2's in the ballpark, but executed poorly. If Oly does it right (include an optical rangefinder for times when you don't want to use the LCD and a DOF scale on the lenses for zone focusing, please) they could land in the sweet spot.
yeah do not forget that samsung is preparing the same kind of a camera only with an aps-c sized sensor.. and it will certainly will be compatible with pentax primes..
so samsung is preparing to battle in the same segment with oly.. pen.
now i became curious on any rumors of the samsung NX, is there anything known about it after the PMA09? any news, videos or articles?
and a logical step for us all pentaxians would be not to rush and buy oly.. stuff, but wait a bit and see what samsung will present..
You'd have to use some kind of adapter, which certainly adds bulk. Plus the adapter may or may not support AF.

Waiting for things that do not exist, Like Samsung NX isn't fun for me
Pentax used to drive me nuts during that never ending production lines move from Japan to VietNam. 4 years and then they got bought out by Hoya.
I do not like to wait for unspec'd no firm target date photo gear:
Like Samsung NX.
I wonder who will get their products to (((mass))) market first?
Pentax K-7, Panasonic GH1 or Oly Pen E-P1 ???
Anyways, theres much more concerning the Oly m4/3 including inbody anti shake and included kit lenses for less money than K-7 and GH1 will launch at. Its going to be a fun summer for gear head debates:

Obviously my numbers are completely made up; this whole forum section is nothing but rumors, opinions, and wild speculation.
That said, judging by the success of the Canon Rebel, Nikon D40 and various higher end bridge cameras I'd say there are a great deal number of non-geeks that want better IQ with faster AF and are willing to spend over $500 to get it. My opinion on the matter (based on people I know with Rebels/D40's) is that most of those users would rather have something like the Oly EP-1. It just hasn't existed until now.

How exactly with the NX be compatible with all the Pentax primes unless its via an adapter? They've already said they're not using the K-mount and I seriously doubt it will have a built in motor to drive the AF on the Limited's even if it was using the k-mount.

I have come across a few users of full-frame bodies and pro-level glass who have been admiring the K-7 and considering adding it, along with some small primes, as a street/travel kit. They are happy with the performance of their larger gear, but they want something smaller when load is an issue, or when trying to be less conspicuous. I think this Olympus will be a big draw to this kind of photographer, a market that Pentax could have owned for a long time because of their small primes - but they never released a well-matched body, IMO. And I think that window of opportunity is closing for them due to M43 and its coming competitors. The K-7 will be successful, and I didn't mean to imply that it was any kind of competitor to the new Olympus. But Pentax lost a golden marketing opportunity, again IMO.

I though some one said that the new oly supports all oly lenses
why cant sumsung / pentax do the same?
I just asking I have no knowledge in cameras making
I though some one said that the new oly supports all oly lenses
Na, it has to use an adapter as well. The registration distance to the sensor is totally different so lenses designed for their SLR's aren't compatible. Some of the 4/3's lenses will autofocus with the adapter and some wont. Either way I wouldn't want to use many of them anyway. Some of Oly's 4/3's zooms are huge. It would be a touch odd using them on this little EP-1. It would be cool mounting some of the old range finder lenses on it though like I've seen people doing in the 4/3's forums.
Samsung showed this when they announced the development of a hybrid camera before the NX. It certainly would be nice to have a competitor to the Oly on the market from Samsung.
