I posted a comment on canonrumors.com in response to some guy saying he can't wait until Canon makes something similar to the E-P1. I responded back with the obvious; "if the Olympus E-P1 is the type of camera you really want why don't you just get it instead of waiting years for Canon to copy it?". He got so upset you'd think I insulted a family member. Apparently those clowns are unaware that you can take photos with cameras not named Canon. That's a shame, Canon makes a lot of nice cameras and lenses, but their fanboys are so annoying I don't know that I could be part of that community.
Speaking of community... I guess you'll be moving along now that you're no longer a Pentax user?

Oooo, there's an analogy. Or the iPod, I suppose, which everyone said was ridiculous.
P.S. I wonder how many EP1's you converts have sold with your enthusiastic reports. I know one of my buddies is considering an upgrade from his e520(?) thanks to this thread.

If I buy a K-Mount adapter can I stay?
Truth be told though, I sold off all my Pentax Gear (aside from my old K1000 and a 500FTZ Strobe) a few months ago when Best Buy put the D200 on clearance for $600. I gave up on Pentax making an advanced magnesium clad DSLR...then of course they announced the K-7 a few weeks after I switched. But I still have a soft spot for Pentax and would like to see them do well.
I've actually been playing around with my D200 tonight trying to decide if I want to keep it or sell it and use the money for m4/3's glass. I really have no idea what I want to do, but I'm leaning towards taking a break from all DSLR's for a while until the cost of full frame comes down. I just don't see enough of an IQ advantage between APS-C and m4/3's to keep both the E-P1 and an APS-C DSLR...and my current skill level doesn't justify paying $2300+ for a FF DSLR. Perhaps in 2 years or so Pentax will have a nice metal bodied FF DSLR that looks something like my old K1000 to go along with their FA Limited's for around $1500 (I can dream). I do miss my FA43mm.
I got to try the ep1 yesterday and day before yesterday, both with the kit and with the pancake with the viewfinder on it. only inside camera stores tho, and cabled to the display table.
The coolest discovery was the shutter sound actually. because you use the camera like a normal p&s but it has a mechanical shutter sound, that was very cool, made it feel more like a leica.
The AF, I was expecting it to be more like sigma dp1/2 after reading that it was not that great but I was positively surprised, its not as great as the panas but it was perfectly usable for normal shooting.
I didnt realize it had two wheels because it has a canon like wheel around the navi buttons. Id prefer if the thumb wheel was of a more conventional design rather than being so narrow but no biggie.
I findit strange it doesnt have a built in flash because it not an extremely small camera, seems to be plenty of space on the front for a flash.
the whole camera was very sexy and the fact that you can mount zeiss/leica/voigtlander rangefinder lenses and have that mechanical shutter sound is very enticing.
The lcd didnt seem that bad, it would have been better to use the high res one that everyone else seems to be using but it was better than expected.
Its very cool, I am now very temtped to get one. and pana has the wide zoom that actually gets you 14mm equivalent wide angle?
Am tempted to get the twin lens kit, altho the price is a bit high right now, maybe in a month or two

Yep, for $1100! Which I think is crazy. I'm going to wait for an UWA prime. I'd be happy with either a 7mm, 8mm, or 9mm f/4. Should be cheaper and smaller.
another concern is panasonic. there are rumors about a smaller m43 cam from them, a pana version of the ep1. that could poentially address all of the ep1s shortcomings at the cost of in body IS. if they use the AF system of the gh1. higher res lcd, better movie mode and an optinal evf. if you listen to the rumors.
then again that would kill the gh1. does anyone think they will put out something like the ep1 soon
For me about the only shortcoming the E-P1 has is lack of EVF. The AF is fine for what I do, I have yet to try an action shot though (not exactly my thing). I've also came to the conclusion the lores LCD is only a problem if you like reading specs. It's absolutely wonderful for composing pics, and its the most visible LCD I've used in the sun. My only beef is its hard to clean finger prints off. A 920k display would be nice once you get back in the shade and start looking at pics though. Hopefully Olympus can do whatever they've done to this 230k display to a 920k model for the E-P2.
I do hope Panny brings an E-P1 sized camera to market though, the more choices the better. Deciding between an EVF and shake reduction is a tough call. I think I'll just keep my E-P1 until the shutter falls apart then get an E-P3/4

The af seemed fine at least with the kit, am just saying altho the af is fine, the af on the gh1 seemed great and also with the longer lenses. read that the pana 50-200 didnt work so well with the ep1. So altho the ep1 seems very cool it would be a bit bitter to get it and find a pana version with better everything -sr just a few months later

I guess I'm just too spoiled with in-body stabilization that I most likely will not be considering the rumored E-P1-like Panny model if it does come out, EVF or no. I'm interested in trying a whole bunch of different lenses I can buy cheap, meaning old lenses without in-lens IS, so the extra stability afforded by the E-P1 will help.
Should Panny adopt in-body IS, though, look out. They already have the AF advantage between them and Olympus.
The af of the gh1 seems quite good indeed. And they do have a lot of lenses with OIS, it wouldnt be a big issue for me Id rather have a same size pana model with the better af, higher res screen, built in flash and better movie mode. strange pana did have a compact before with a built in flash that could tilt, why didnt anyone ever do that again

So they could charge consumers for external flash units?
No idea, really, but the cynic inside me tells me that.
