What can Oly offer? More compact camera than Panasonic GH1, but with very strong AA filter with in-camera jpeg better than RAW.
The competitor for DP2. But, DP2 has bigger sensor and high detailed end picture with special colours.
What can E-P1 do?
If that wasnt eanough, even though the dp1/dp2 produce excellent results, they are shitty cameras in every other regard. I wanted to buy a dp1 but after reading about it and trying it I just couldnt. Everything was bad except IQ. focus is bad, write is unbearably slow, af is bad etc. The gh1 has very fast af compared to the dp2.
I am considering an e-p1 myself. with a voigtlander adapter and some voigtlander rangefinder lenes. the 50mm f1.1 would be a 100mm f1.1, interesting lens

Better AF, interchangable lenses, more MP (I want at least 3000x2000px resolution), better build quality, sure looks a whole lot nicer, and finally 720p video recording. So in other words it's a camera for the 95% of the population that doesn't want the bulk of an SLR (even small ones like the D40), but still want nice photos.
Seriously, if these leaked photos are real then this camera makes all entry level SLR's look down right clunky, outdated, and even cheap in comparison. Can you imagine any casual shooter choosing and SLR over one of these? I can't. SLR's will soon be relegated to the realm of camera geeks, enthusiast and pros.

It's not for me. My daughter has E420 and I use it sometimes too...
As for me - the only camera of 4/3 which can offer the REAL QUALITY PICTURE of very good IQ is Panasonic L10. Olympus's image engine is no good for me.
I don't understand why JPEG from RAW-convertor (even from ACR or LR) is worse than in-camera JPEG.
what do you think of oly.. new camera to be announced tomorrow?
pen - series
Well, it won't replace my DSLR but sure would be a nice carry around camera. I blew my budget on ordering a K-7 but I was considering a G10 or DP2 for that purpose, but this will blow them away.
In my book there are clearly two key cameras this year: one is the K-7, and the other is the Olympus E-P1. I would love to buy both, although these are not ideal days to spend loads of money on cameras.
It can attach every Olympus lens made from Pen series foward
Pen F, OM, 4/3 all easily adapt via olympus made adapters to micro 4/3.
So pentax won't be alone in boasting of their backwards compatibilty into early 1960's. On top of that this camera will allow nikon non ai, ai, ais, canon fd, minolta md lens owners (((ect...))) a platform to use old lenses on.
Thats the magic of micro 4/3, the ability to adapt even C Mount cine lenses to digital. G1 Panasonic Micro 4/3 has been quite popular across multibrand owners.
I think this Oly is a camera someone adds to their kit, as it doesn't replace other brands you already own.
The BIG question is will this oly have inbody shake reduction ???

If they get it right, the Oly could be a hit with advanced amateurs and pros looking for a small travel and street camera. In this respect they outflank Pentax on the small side of things. Someone with a D3 or even a 5DmkII looking for something small will be more likely to go for a Micro43 than say a K7 or even a K2000 and a couple of pancake primes. I don't think it will have a lot of mainstream appeal however, unless the price is really low.

this is + 35mm sensor is my dream camera... I dont know who will be the brand that eventually will make an hybrid FF cam (maybe leica? ) I hope it will be sumsung with the K mount pancakes ... maybe I will get lucky and Pentax will make a camera like that .. I only know that this is my dream camera..

I am already interested but to really make it a dream camera they could add a rangefinder too, but without making the whole thing leica priced. i find the experience of taking pictures get so much better when i can hold the camera to my eye, it also makes it a lot more stable to reduce shake
To my great surprise I don't understand why I can't make better picture from Oly's RAW than in-camera's jpeg.
The most important thing in any camera is picture's IQ. The level of Oly is above old prosumers (2/3" sensor), but lower than any APS-C camera.
