What does it take to start a photography or camera website?

Very interesting, I started a website yesterday at Login along with the owner of 43rumors.com and in a single day it has gained nearly 100 members, but none of them are posting anything. We only have 300 total posts, 89 of which are mine. So if you can get them to join, how do you get them to post on it?

Send a global email telling them to post or lose membership.

You'll have to be patient then won't you?

I know it's tearing at your insides.

I'm not going to register just to read a forum. Have you posted anything to get the ball rolling?

They are probably joining just to see what is inside, and then determining that there isn't much to reply to.

You would probably get a better start by allowing browsing of your forum without joining.

I rarely join a forum just to see what is inside. Usually I peruse an open forum first to see if I find it interesting, and then join when I wish to reply within the forum.

Well this certainly isn't helping people that are truly interested in the forum's topic find you:
Code:
<meta name="description" content="Login" />
<meta name="keywords" content="PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, smf, simple, machines, forum" />

I went to your website only to find that I must join to view it.
But it gives no indication of what it is about.
Why bother filling in my personal info if it turns out to be something that holds no interest for me?

"Draft" some illustrious members that create controversy. Talent and blood (or bloody talented) are a perfect combination and calls members. Here is a short list of people that would do a good job

Wendy B
Benjikan
Codiac
Ricehigh
Gooshin
FTPaddict

If they dont accept at first instance try to offer sponsorships and NDAs

Good luck!

I looked at both your sites and since I have to register I just closed the window. You need to allow people to check it out first. Then if they deem it worthy they will register.

Hey grouso, I am a little dissappointed I didn't make the short list!

Hey! it is not an exclusive list. It is just an unsolicited cold-blooded backstabbing list spiced with truth. Just my style.

It is also a good advice for running a popular forum.

Now 165 members and the posts are picking up slightly but still only around 100 a day on it.
