How the Obama was so vocal on Iraq yet when the surge worked he denied it. Now that the Iraqi's have taken control (so to speak) Michael Jackson has the headlines and the Obama barely makes mention of our troops coming home.
I hope that we don't treat the Veterans coming home the same way we treated the Viet Nam Veterans.

The governement treats our Vets horribly. My husband has been fighting for his compensation since he retired in 2005. He has 2 prostetic discs in his back, is in constant pain so he cannot get a job, was interviewed by a VA rep who said he was unemployable, and had a heart attack 23 days after his retirement. The VA gave him 30% and said his back would get better. He's still fighting them. They eventually gave him a little bit more... now 60%. His heart is no better. He had an arterial fibrillation in May and found out that the reason is is that he is not getting an oxygen while sleeping. He stops breathing. He was tested for that while in the Navy and they said he didn't have it. And he's also on Coumidin. He's only 43 years old, pissed off and depressed that he can't even go out and get a job to support his family. We can't even take an family trips or do the things we used to because he's in pain all the time. Yet the government doesn't care. They do the same thing to those who are coming home from Iraq.
It's easy to blame those in power and in the public eye, and to pass on the criticism from previous administrations...
Govt treatment of vets has less to do with the person in the top job than we think.
Civvies are just as accountable to their neglect in society.
Though Aussie vets are well treated IMO, both by the public and the govt...
There's always support for them in every aspect.
There are parallels between the Vietnam war and the Iraq war, both were wars that nobody wanted, apart from the people at the top and the corporations that made the weapons.
Veterans of the Vietnam war were treated shamefully by many civilians but I think in the case of the Iraq war, there is a lot more compassion theses days.

Yes, and the media probably has a lot to do with drumming up civilian support towards the Iraq war, which was dubiously engaged from the beginning.
Though all the revelations of political alterior motives and economic interests in the arms industry, the Iraq war becomes less and less justifiable.
They have to be heroes. They acted on behalf of G. W. Bush.
Regardless of which President sends our military people, they are still our military. I didn't agree with Iraq at the time (not for the usually reasons) but others. However, I'm not going to sell our people short that swore an oath to their country and President. Its an oath that could cost them their life and in many cases does.
That's all I have to say about that.
Edit: A substantial portion of the people pulling duty in Afghan and Iraq are from reserve and Nat. Guard units. Many have been called up for multiple "tours" of over a year each. When in the military and the Man calls, you don't tell him to fukk off.
