Then what's the hurry? McCain's policy on Iran was to filk a Beach Boys song to claim we should just bomb the place.

Look at what *not bothering to bomb* got the world: Instead of intractable enemies, people *wanting* for freedom, *fighting* for it, and seeing more than the dark end of a gun when they think of democracy.

Not so sure he deserves it, but that guy they wear the green for, those deomonstrators call their 'Obama.'

Interesting, no?

Would pointing a nuke at them have suddenly started to help?

I am a 'distinguished expert' though. NRA/CMP. I should be feared, I don't fear others.

Well, that wasn't directed at *you,* Seamuis. The NRA may have thought you need an Uzi to walk down the streets my grandmother did every day of her life, but I know you know what a tool is for.

This is what we celebrate on this day.

(Addition: This would not be what's happening there if we had bombed them, or even been pointing big guns at them.) Get it?

all I would need is one shot. I could do some damage. if the situation was in my favor. but yea, it wouldnt do me much good in the long run.

side story: all the members of my team named their rifles. when we screwed up, our SAO would call us by that name... I have been stuck with the nickname 'pearline' since my sophomore year. (it was prnounced pear LINE, not pear LEEN)

anyway.

Hee. Well, we do have some guns, here. You might not expect it, but I'm quite a good shot, myself. At least when my arthritis isn't being a drag on the corporate economy.

Come down to it, if I were in a fight, I'd rather have someone not-freaking out with a .22 behind me, than someone scared as hell with an AK-47 behind me.

See?

See the *problem* with people like you RML *I'm just saying* is you *forget* history. (not to mention herstory). What kept the US and the USSR from taking action against each other? Pushing *the* button so to speak. Do you really know?

As well as anyone could. I lived in a priority target while Reagan was starting to show the Alzheimer's.

Exactly how much conservative panic about being 'soft on defense' is going to convince 'axes of evil' that we couldn't cough and wipe their countries off the map if *Kucinich* were President?

Posing for the home audience as if we have reason to be scared is an appearance of weakness.

Obama's been doing the right thing, and it's working.

I have full confidence we don't need to posture or panic.

We *are* the big kids on the block. We don't need to bust a cap in Kim Jong Il to prove anything. We can do much better.

Bush's apocalyptic hyperbole is what gave these maniacs *credibility.*

For his own purposes.

What made the mess is Bush trying to use for his own purposes some fear that we can't kick anyone's butt, acting out that fear, and then committing our resources to a foolish venture. We're good, actually. May as well act it.

You do realize, of course, that Kim Jong Il is is own leader of the theocratic 'cult of Kim Jong Il.'

This latest stuff is all about him basically bucking for 'suicide by cop.' The 'cop' being us.

let South Korea and Japan work things out and then handle Kim together, if he is such a threat. im tired of our country taking the lead in sending soldiers to die.

You have another course of action to propose?

I do encourage you to check out the concept of 'psychohistory,' ...Also Jamestown. I meant Jonestown. Or... Hrm.

Well, I dunno, what would *you* do about a dude with delusions of Godhood about to die in Jackie O sunglasses threatening to annihilate you with a Hyundai and a trebuchet?

And, here's the important point:
Holding his own people hostage to his own megalomania.

While dying.

(Addition: ) If we were going to 'do' somethiing, the time would have been fifteen years ago. Now..... There's no percentage in intervening. That's gonna implode, I could promise you.

So indeed. Like people who think they need a big magazine to defend themselves. It's always struck me that all kinds of people who shake in their boots where I live are always convinced they don't have enough firepower.

Kinda like those who don't think you can get a good image, actually, without the biggest and baddest camera. I get scared of rednecks, myself, when I live certain places, but when the same people come to *my* neighborhood, I'd always say, 'If you get shot here, it'd be defying the odds if it was cause anyone was aiming at you.'

Boys kind of define themselves by their guns, much like they do with cameras, which is essentially all very silly. It's one of my little rules of life. 'The bad guys always bring plenty of weapons.'

Can't really do that on some line with photogs, but, the sentiment's the same.
