Comparable Pentax focal lengths will cost more, at just under US$1200.00, but for this you get two limited lenses and the FA50/1.4 which is still listed, all are fully compatible with all Pentax DSLR bodies, and a couple of them have earned a reputation of being among the best lenses made.
To get full compatibility the Nikon buyer has to move up to the D5000 which narrows the price gap between Pentax and Nikon significantly, especially considering the price of a K2000 or the slightly more expensive K200.
I think what has upset people is not the price increase on it's own but the size of the increase.

This is what every camera looks like to him that's not a Canon:

I think RH is a sad, sad reflection on the Canon brand and Canon users. None of the Canon users that I've met have had anything bad to say about Pentax. If anything, they respect Pentax.

When it all comes down to it, it's more about what you can do with the tools you have.

Oh cmon, holga is an amazing camera...

That said after that post of his I guess I can only conclude that Rice is either of these two:
1. the man is highly undecisive and loves to measurebate than taking pictures... (might actually not be too bad I guess?)
2. canon employee pure and simple... (although I'm kind of skeptical that if that's really his job that he haven't actually used a Pentax body other than K100D)

A $50 increase in a year is not "a lot". The insane and crippling increases we are talking about I outlined in the thread CONFIRMED UK Prices - No Rumour. DA 40mm went up £160 to £379. FA 50 increased £280 to £439.

And those aren't recommended retail, that's what the damned things are actually selling for!

I can no longer recommend Pentax to my friends. This makes me sad.

Yeah, Nikon screwed people over with the whole AF thing.

The same setup for Canon would be:
35/2 $299
501/.8 $99
85/1.8 $379

Pentax Got Bought. Why? Prices Too Low

Pentax lost so much money, they COULD be bought by Hoya. If Hoya doesn't raise prices, they will be in a similar situation. Seriously, didn't you see this coming?

Pentax has been in business for years, with the same kind of business philosophy.
I'm sure there's more to it than simply being prey to the bigger fish in the sea.

This past year hasn't been a typical year for anyone. Some forget that Canon is a copy machine and printer company as well. Plus, Hoya has been going through a re-arrangement phase that is typical for an acquisition.

never. funny though that he kept on ranting about the K-7s shortcomings but pre-ordered it supposedly , then suddenly changed his mind into buying L-Lenses. the guy wasn't really up to Pentax in the first place. he's so proud of his FF 5D and why in the hell would he buy an APS-C sensor dSLR that he bashed on a regular basis? just doesn't sound right. I call his pre-orded thing a BS statement just to influence people not to jump into the K-7 craze. what a cunning person. well, not cunning enough to change people's mind.

Apparently no one much liked RH, everyone thought his blog was garbage BUT READ IT ANYWAY and probably more than once, replied to his posts when you should just IGNORE THE TROLL, kicked him in the butt on the way out, and now can't stop talking about him.
