Wildlife Photographer of the Year

The World Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition is in town at one of our city galleries at the moment.
The Exhibition is about 100 of the top rated photos (winners etc) for 2008.
Anyway, I took a drive into the city to have a look over the shots.

Overall, though there were some great shots, I was a little disappointed in the standard. To be honest, I have seen photos here that would have been right up there with the best of them.

Took note as well, among the photos exhibited, there was not a single shot taken with a Pentax camera. 99% of course were Nikon or Canon, one Olympus, and one Linhof, if I remember rightly.

Well worth taking the time nevertheless, and if it comes to your corner of the world, I highly recommend you take the time to peruse the exhibition.

I know what you mean about the top images chosen in these type of illustrious competitions Bruce - the biases and favouritism towards certain photogs will always be there amongst the jodges. I had a similar reaction with some of the images in the Canon photographer of the year awards exhibition that came by our town not too long ago.

I'll keep my eye out on this one though...

Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year

I know that this is a while away but the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition 2009 opens on the 23rd of October at the Natural History Museum in London.

But I agree with you about the standard. Some wow images but a number of ones which I really struggle to except were better than others entered! (in fact I know they weren't! )
