I don't regret going for Pentax, but if I had to start from zero, I'd think much longer.
I too am about to transition from Canon to Pentax. I'll miss my tilt/shift lens but will likely replace it with a Russian made one in K mount.

Your assertion that "new and used FAs, DAs, Fs are damn expensive" may be true, but it raises a number of other questions.

IMO, the SR capability of the K100D and K10D force an interesting calculus to be applied to any comparison with competitors. As everyone here knows, it allows pretty much ALL Pentax compatible lenses to be 'IS' regardless of race, creed or national origin.

At this time, the only other companies that offer in-body vibration control are Olympus and Sony. Neither has been able to deal effectively with higher ISO noise as well as Pentax. Oly lenses are very good but the best are Wow! expensive. Sony has a lot of older Minolta designed lenses available but I've seen questions raised about compatibility for some of them. And Sony service? Yuck.

Canon has a number of IS lenses but one must pay a stupifying premium for each one. Compare the prices of the recently introduced 70-200 f/4.0 'L' IS to the previous non-IS version. For the difference, you could buy a K100D body!

There are serious rumors that Canon, and possibly Nikon, are working on and will soon introduce in-body SR. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Pentax's success with that feature built a fire under them. I thought about waiting them out, but that still wouldn't resolve one of the key benefits Pentax offers me; real, workable compatibility with a number of unique and wonderful older lenses.

Well I sold a Canon 20D and 2 top IS lenses (plus sigma flashguns and some extension tubes), bought a Samsung GX10 with twin lens kit, a Pentax flashgun and a 50mm macro lens.

I made a cash profit, I'm taking better pictures, I love the output and I enjoy using it more.

For what it's worth I think the TAv mode which is unique to this camera (GX10 / K10D) is a revelation - set the "creative" parameters ie shutter and aperture, and let the camera find an ISO that works! Genius!

But the point is that it produces beautiful colours, and has great shadow depth, and is a joy to use.

I see a lot of people switching from Canon to Pentax. But my question is what Canon body are you switching from? Mark I/II, 30D, 20D? Or the XTi?? My guess would be that the majority of these cases are switching from the XTi (or older). You pay even a higher premium for the good Pentax glass. Yes the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM is $1600, but the Pentax 70-200mm/80-200mm f/2.8 is going for $2700. Now which one would you rather pay?

Well, I havnt been on here for a while and i thought i should update you all about what i did.

Turns out i didnt get a k10d (or a samsung). Two days before i sold my 400d kit, someone offered to sell me their near new 20d for an incredible price. So in the end i made a cash profit which has gone towards some nice goodies.

Next up is a 12-24 and then maybe a 70-200 f2.8L (we will see how much i get back from my tax)
