Everyone around use c*non and I could get used c*non lenses any time for much cheaper price. I'm not even going to talk about star lenses, dalay and possible prices.
I don't regret going for Pentax, but if I had to start from zero, I'd think much longer.
I too am about to transition from Canon to Pentax. I'll miss my tilt/shift lens but will likely replace it with a Russian made one in K mount.
Your assertion that "new and used FAs, DAs, Fs are damn expensive" may be true, but it raises a number of other questions.
IMO, the SR capability of the K100D and K10D force an interesting calculus to be applied to any comparison with competitors. As everyone here knows, it allows pretty much ALL Pentax compatible lenses to be 'IS' regardless of race, creed or national origin.
At this time, the only other companies that offer in-body vibration control are Olympus and Sony. Neither has been able to deal effectively with higher ISO noise as well as Pentax. Oly lenses are very good but the best are Wow! expensive. Sony has a lot of older Minolta designed lenses available but I've seen questions raised about compatibility for some of them. And Sony service? Yuck.
Canon has a number of IS lenses but one must pay a stupifying premium for each one. Compare the prices of the recently introduced 70-200 f/4.0 'L' IS to the previous non-IS version. For the difference, you could buy a K100D body!
There are serious rumors that Canon, and possibly Nikon, are working on and will soon introduce in-body SR. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Pentax's success with that feature built a fire under them. I thought about waiting them out, but that still wouldn't resolve one of the key benefits Pentax offers me; real, workable compatibility with a number of unique and wonderful older lenses.
