Can't... Stand... Fox... News... - general rant

Okay, I know most news outlets seem to have their own slant one way or another, (hello NPR, MSNBC, CNN FOX, etc etc) but no one can look me in the eye and tell me anyone is more slanted in their bias than Fox News. And believe it or not, I'm not a Democrat.

Of course I get to watching Bill O'Reilly, why I don't know (edit: yes I do, because I didn't want to watch any more of Nancy Grace talking about the tot mom AGAIN), the guy always ticks me off, simply because he's just such an arrogant #$!@. (I think the same thing of Al Gore, btw) But anyway, he's got this guest on and they're talking about the Obama speech to the U.N. general assembly.

So in between clips and pictures of Amedinajad (sorry spelling) and Qhadafi O'Reilly & friend are talking about how Obama was <paraphrasing> there to bow down to his buddies from Iran and Libya <insert more pics of Iranian leaders here>. They didn't mention or show any video of the other what, 192 member nations of the general assembly? They just keep talking about the parade of tyrants that Obama led the way for. Come on are you joking?

They go on about how America is now a laughingstock and Obama is apologizing all over the place to his Iranian friends for the wrongs we have committed. And isn't it OH SO TERRIBLE how he's saying "one nation should not dominate another".

They continue rambling on about how Obama actually hates this country, how unpatriotic he is, and that he and all his university buddies from the weather underground are so happy now he's in power and is basically sapping all of our wordly testosterone and making the US look like fools.

Oh, and he's now embarked on the "We Suck 09" tour, going all over the world apologizing for what we've done, as if we've done nothing wrong at all.

I'm sorry, I listen to and read news from a number of different sources on a daily basis, and Fox is the absolute worst. The US has looked terrible for many years since the start of the "War on Terror". We took any and all good will that was shown to us after the events of 9/11 and flushed it down the proverbial toilet with our actions. Anyone who doesn't understand that (whether you believe we were right or not) simply doesn't have their eyes open.

So we're the lone world superpower, why should we worry about what anyone else thinks? Because how can we advise other nations on how they should act when we were not behaving ourselves? (Geneva conventions, anyone?) And the Guantanimo detainees - seriously if you've got evidence TRY THEM what are you waiting for after how many years?. And if we don't have any evidence against them why are they there in the first place? This was an issue before Obama was even running for president, has nothing to do with him other than he's trying to clean up the mess that was left.

And then later on I flip back, someone else is on and they start on healthcare and start talking about Obama's death panels. *poof* Sweet Jesus even the hard right Republicans know this is just BS, but they repeat it anyway. *tears hair out*

Anyway, rant over. I'll try to stay away from that channel for a few weeks, I promise.

Look, on behalf of an shameful nation, we're sorry for letting Rupert Murdoch escape. Really. That whole family's probably the worse thing to happen to journalism in the last hundred years, and we're feeling it more than ever now that News Corp is now one of two companies who run our media. Oh, it's more efficient that way! Beats having to worry about forming your own opinion from a variety of sources, and actually thinking!

Fox News, however, is just one facet of the News Corporation problem.

Ah young Rupert shaping the looniverse again. His son James seems a bit miffed about the BBC giving away news for nothing and ruining any chance Fox have of turning a tidy profit in the UK. A lovely lot the Murdochs. I have not so fond memories of how they invented scandals for an earlier government here and cost that government an election.
But it's a tradition with media moguls to shape public opinion to match their world views. I think the Hearsts had that down to a fine art in the earlier half of last century.

Big Time (and, yes, if you think I'm referring to someone specific here, you're correct.)

Ah, yes, I saw Jimmy's little rant in Britain. I agree, it is a shame the BBC's publicly funded - because it makes all those private-run entities look like crap. The BBC is head and shoulders above most any news service out there.

I love the standard media conglomerate logic he's using, too: "The BBC is causing us to lose profits. Lost profits have the same effect as theft, therefore something that cause us to loose profits is a thief."

Oh, yeah, he muttered something about the plurality of journalism, how it's important (and it is,) but we all know News Corp's stance on that. Murdoch's said as much. It's business, it's a free-for-all.

Remember Keith Murdoch's attempted character assassination of Monash, the only commander in the entirety of WWI to have any respect for his solders' lives?

Americans, when you watch Fox News, remember this:

The man who started it all was very nearly shot for treason...by the French.

Good enough reason to KEEP watching it. The French? Who cares? I mean the only war they ever won was their own civil war. Hell if the Italians didn't teach em to cook they'd a starved ta death.

You like it MEAN spirited.

Better than Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid, sweet but provides no nutritional value whatsoever. And in fact takes vitamins from you to process and drain you. Just like our socialist president.

Tea at least is soothing. Like me.
