Way cool bat shots

Saw a link to these in the strobist twitter feed, quite amazing and to consider the patience and work that went into making these

Stunning shots of thirsty bats swooping to lick water from garden pond | Mail Online

includes a setup shot too. since it sayd the IR triggered the flashes and not the camera I guess thats either a typo or he used bulb mode... Wonder what he did about focus, has to be prefocus and how far he had to stop down, the shots look very sharp

Ooh, very impressive job.

Bats!

I'm very fond of bats: I used to live somewhere where you could see them dancing against the sky every evening. And saving me from many bug-bites, no doubt.

Fascinating.
He must've known the habits of these bats to get them time and time again.

"Except for the camera itself, Kim designed and built all the equipment to achieve the amazing shots."

Astonishing work by a brilliant man. I'd love to shake his hand.

Wow. Those are some pretty amazing shots. And for some reason the bats just make me laugh.

Truly excellent. THere was another Strobist posts earlier in the year with a guy shooting birds flying to a bird feeder this way. I think he pre-focused.
