Let me guess, both of these places are extremely conservative?
I wouldn't say anymore than an average town in the US. Most people here are respectful of others and their views. There are five colleges here and a more relaxed acceptance of the youth and their views compared to some of the more "backwoods communities" surrounding the city. Our neighboring city would probably be considered more liberal even though it's home to one of the most religious/conservative universities in the country (Bob Jones University).

This thread is a great idea, so I'll play along...

Where I live...

has been in transition from "rural" to "suburban" for the last quarter-century plus
has become more culturally diverse over the same span
was once a hotspot where entertainers, politians, mobsters and scientists hobnobbed
is wedged between 2 lakes, and many folks own boats
has too many deer, and too many cars that hit them
has an "efficiency motel", houses the size of outhouses, and palatial estates
the majority of workers commute eastward in the mornings
has lost much of it's charm
