This family was on an episode of Wife Swap. The guy is full of it and more or less treats his wife like crap. She does everything and he yells for her with a bullhorn. Publicity stunt? Damn right! And he couldn't even work up a good cry on TV when I watched the interview yesterday morning. Idiot....

Reason: added a missing word.
It doesn't even have to be a stunt or a hoax (in which case the parents could actually face some stiff criminal charges)... People who are careless or just plain stupid and who get themselves into "rescue" situations are often sent a bill for those services. Heck a simple ambulance ride can run several hundred dollars. I hate to think what a couple of helicopters and a bevy of police cruisers and S&R coordination could cost these guys.
I vote for stupid. Things in this story just don't add up. I personally feel they should have to pay for all the services. I think both parents were irresponsible.
It didn't appear to me that that saucer-like ballon had enough lifting power to get airborne with 50 lbs or so on aboard. It looks like a flying saucer mimic toy of some sort.
There is a video of it's launch floating around and it appears to be deliberate.
You gotta admit if this was a hoax, he had people concerned. Looks like this was well played out. Did ya'll see the interview were Falcon threw up? Which brings another question. How you gone have your boy all over the FREAKIN MEDIA IF THIS WAS A FREAKIN ACCIDENT?????? Sorry, I will digress.............. TOO MUCH DOES NOT ADD UP!!!!! And did ya'll see how ACTIVE he was? Climbing over cars, etc??? But we are led to believe he hid in a BOX for a few HOURS!!!!!
"Questions over the incident intensified after the family appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live" Thursday night. Repeating a question from CNN's Wolf Blitzer, who was filling in for King, Heene asked his son why he had not come out from hiding when they were calling for him.
"You guys said we did this for the show," Falcon replied.
Heene told CNN his son was confused when he made the "show" remark. There were media assembled on the front lawn asking all sorts of questions, and that's what Falcon was referring to, Heene said."
Quoted from AP article:
"We were looking at Class 3 misdemeanor, which hardly seems serious enough given the circumstances," Alderden said. "We are talking to the district attorney, federal officials to see if perhaps there aren't additional federal charges that are appropriate in this circumstance."
Yeppers, sounds like a big HOAX to me. I hope he gets charged with whatever and then has to reimburse everyone that showed up to chase the balloon. Serves him right for being stupid.
I think the most telling evidence I have seen is from that interview mentioned above, where Falcon said "we did this for the show"
If you look at his two brothers reactions when he said it, it was priceless. They had the " Oh crap we are gonna be in so much trouble" looks immediately!
I am not sure which is the bigger crime here. The horrible hoax, or the fact that this father and mother are putting the pressure of trying to hide the hoax on the shoulders of a six year old and then tossing him to the media sharks.
He got sick the next two times he was asked about it.
And did you see the look on the dad's face when the kid was saying that? Wasn't exactly "I'm glad you're alive," more, "Are you going to say what I told you say?"
Fast forward to 3:45. Ricky admits his inspiration for his theory that we're all descended from aliens stems from a head injury.
1) Putting his kid through that, apparently he was puking during the shows (stress?)
2) Taking emergency service helicopters & cars away from actually saving lives
If that guy fesses up, then seriously he deserves everything that's thrown at him fines-wise. No sympathy whatsoever.
