I'm with everyone else and think you are being shafted. Now that you've offered, if the guy comes back to you with a $10 claim to get it fixed. Fine take your lumps and settle the deal. If it's much more than that, post here what he says and try to listen to the gang on the forum. We've all got plenty of Ebay experience and can hopefully offer advice to get this finished off.

He screwed it up and it's his problem. It might be a "Pentax" adapter but that does not mean it's an original. It could easily be some 3rd party piece of crap that is the cause.

Everyone is going on the assumption that this guy really did screw up the lens mount . How about this: Got a great lens and is using it daily figures he can get a partial refund from the seller if he complains enough. Sound plausible?

I don't remember the ID's of all the Buyers in China that burned me before I quit selling there, but the one that cost me the most was a character that went by
agoodday2008. He started a chain reaction of NSF fees when paypal refunded him. I didn't even know he was going to paypal. had allready sent a copy of customs forms and shipping receipt. When I looked harder at his "positive " feedback there were warnings from other sellers.
BTW whats up with the great demand for specifically Pentax equiptment in China?

Didn't like my idea about sending him live hornets? How about a poisonous snake?

Is there a setting for ebay to prevent/block certain user ID's from bidding on your auctions?

Go to your Ebay home page and click on "Help". Then type in blocked buyers. The topics listed will take you straight to that menu.

Ebay menus are sometimes overwhelming but it's on this page:Managing your selling activity Just look under "Solve a problem"

Of course you can limit the country as well when you create the listing. If a buyer bids for there anyway, you can refuse to take a payment and ship.

Thanks Peter....I agree that a cheap fix would be the best option. I'll let everyone know what he comes back with.

I thought of that too. There are also one that went for cheap recently....so he may feel he paid too much even though it was very fair (mind you that the cheaper one looked like it had been rolling around the back of a pickup truck for a few months)

He at first wanted to ship it back...so if it's fine then I would notice (and would have been out all the shipping charges)

I did contact ebay and received a somewhat generic response back from them. Basically they won't force a refund, are encouraging me to work it out with the buyer and awknowlge that sometimes buyers do not leave accurate feedback (I don't know if that means that they will remove feedback since it is my word against his from their point of view). I guess having one negative feedback isn't the end of the world.

I'm stuck on the opposite side of a similar problem. A dude listed a rangefinder on eBay that was in "perfect working order", but when I got it the shutter was stuck and a bunch of other things were not as described. It wasn't an error on my part or shipping damage. The seller has the audacity to not pay for return shipping when the listing was so egregiously misrepresented. Anyway, I've decided to swallow the return shipping and give him a negative.

Wrong krypticide, You put through a claim with Paypal that the seller refuses a full refund. They will side with you and you will get 100% of the money back. Jusrt document everything. I've done this 3 times in the last 2 years as a buyer and I've gotten my money back.

OK...the adapter apparently came off the lens and the threads are being cleaned up and it should be ready tomorrow. The cost was $35 so I sent him $18 and an email through ebay explaining how to check his adapter (to make sure it is a genuine Pentax adapter) and what the safest way is to put the lens on and off the camera.

I'm hoping that's the end of it (I'll let everyone know if it's not).

Thanks for all the advice and for listening to my rant!..lol

Glad it worked out in the end, but I'm not sure why you had to go halves with the cost.

Thanks Ash...hopefully it is the end of it. I shouldn't have had to go halves based on the principal of it....but if he is happy, I retain my 100% on ebay, then it seems like the best thing for me.

I've been hording glass for a while now....and should let some of it go. If I sell another M42....I'll add a note on how to use the lens with an adapter, what adapter to use, etc. (just to save myself the headache should something like this happen again).

You've been quite cordial and insightful about it all Steve.
Hope you don't get any more unreasonable buyers.

I don't think he'll provide anything.....I'll just be happy it didn't turn into an ugly ordeal. Re the lenses....I have a bad case of sellers remorse....I need to figure out what to let go that will be the least painful... Once I figure out what needs to go.....I'll definitely post them here....
