Using plastic is not the problem. It's the responsible disposal of it that is the problem.
Even if no more plastic was ever produced, the floating trash will be there for a long time.
Even if the plastic is disposed of properly raw materials are still being used up. The amount of crude oil in the world is quickly running out, so making less things out of plastic is what has to happen
Current Pentax cameras are made mostly of plastic.

Most everything had plastic in it. Better get rid of your computers. And radios. And CDs. Actually might be easier to list what doesn't contain oil products. Wait. Oil is used to transport it.
I think litter is more the problem here...in these birds' cases, probably floating litter in the ocean, not so much on the ground (though litter in general seems so uncivilized).

Litter starts off on the ground but if it doesn't get picked up it ends up in the ocean.
What's with the plastic packaging on stuff now? Costs 2 cents to produce and a boat load to get rid of. More corporate welfare in the making....passing onto taxpayers to clean up..... A yes...deregulation...since corporations will always do the right thing...
Disgusting, was my first thought.
Why do these birds eat them?, was my second.
Most other creatures sift through their food but these guys just gobble things down...
Perhaps a genetic modification of their rumination system may be in order...
Sorry but showing photos of something that could or couldn't have been caused by using plastic isn't going to change my mind about it. I really hate it when guilt trips are used to try and prove a point.
