Four years back I was obsessed with flight. I took lessons and eventually got my private pilots license. I was mad for flight - simply loved it! I was renting planes and buzzing friends and family all over the place. Now this is an expensive addiction! Soon I was spinning hopelessly in a downward spiraling cesspool of debt. I finally had to quit and consolidate everything into one loan which will take yet 2 more years to pay off.
Bottom line - when I get hooked I go down hard! Currently I am slowly appeasing my LBA by purchasing only what I can afford with money saved - nothing on credit!
Highend audio equipment. Can make Pentax photo equipment look inexpensive. Also Bicycles. Have 6. Only one was less than $1000.

Hah - I know what you mean about audio equipment. My husband's into that, my occasional lens purchases pale by comparison. Have you got into SACD? We spend a lot of time comparing ordinary CD with SACD recordings, but I don't fully appreciate the subtle differences. It all sounds lovely to me.
You seem to be an amalgam of the two of us - he does audio, I do photo and bikes (just three at the moment), and I just talked him into a nice Kona commuter bike with all the (expensive) trimmings!
Most of my interests are merely interests, not addictions, though. I don't have the money to be addicted.
I Love to fish when I get a chance. Love to eat out... for the sake of my waste line I need to cut this back . Video Games, electronics, and lately I can't get enough of my newborn son's smile.
Fishing is a real addiction for me. I mostly go surf fishing which is fishing in the ocean from the beach (for those who didnt know). I also have 10 guitars. I guess that would count as an addiction right?
Foxglove, I do seem to be a combination of you two. Have heard friends sacd players but haven't jumped yet. Hard to decide what to get. The cd "player" I use is Pioneer Elite PD65 (as transport) into Gw labs jitter reducer, followed by Perpetual Technologies P1 jitter reducer/ resolution enhancer and P3 dac powered my Monolithic power supply. It takes 5 boxes to play a darn cd! Hate to add ore for sacd. Still love LPs. Have a Linn and a Sota turntable.
Have many camera systems. Including Pentax, Olympus, Leica, and uh -Canon. Ouch.
Favorite bike was imported from the Netherlands. It is a lowracer. The seat is reclined at 23 degrees and I lay 12" off the ground. Think street luge. At stop lights I just put my hand on the pavement instead of unclipping feet. May post a shot here someday.
Addictions? Probably so. Oh well. Enjoy it.
thanks

Motorcycling. I ride a Yamaha VStar1100 and am rebuilding a 1976 Harley Sportster (mucho $$$s on moderate hold due to Pentax LBA and "I-wanna-K10D-itis").

Like skydragoness I autocross. I'm at the point now where I don't need to spend a lot on the car, as it is setup the way I want it. However, race tires are damn expensive, and don't last anywhere near as long as lenses! I am also addicted to golf. I was going to buy a set of custom-made clubs this year, but I bought a K100 instead! Also wine and single malt scotches. When it's too cold to golf or autocross (about 7 months of the year up here), I drink single malts, and think about golf and racing.
Okay, you have my man beat - between the players and the speakers, he's only got a Rotel pre-amp and power-amp. A mere three boxes to play a disc! However, he's also set up an optional powered Hafler circuit (surround sound without the expense), consisting of an old Nakamichi tuner amp and the second-best speakers. It's surprisingly effective.

Oh, very cool - please do post some shots. I doubt I'd have the nerve to ride something so low in traffic, but they do look quite impressive. I stick to rather pedestrian bikes (if that's not totally oxymoronic), and have a couple of mountain bikes and a road bike that I never ride. I'm a complete mountain bike convert, with the lousy paving we have, I need the big tires!
I forgot an addiction in my earlier post - knitting. Specifically, knitting stuffed toys: started with rabbits, moved on to sheep, and then hit the "hard stuff", llamas. Also monkeys, nautiloids (coiled and straight), and I'm about to try my first turtle! I do knit "normal" things, like scarves, sweaters and bags, but definitely the animals are the most fun!
- tools (well over $2000 in craftsman tools)
- rocks (I'm a geologist, what's your excuse?)
- RC anything, I've got a boat, plane, and a few cars, nothing high-end, just stuff to have fun with.
