Firstly, Islam is not a race, it is a religion. I do, however, see your point. Just because he has an Arabic sounding name and shouted "Allahu Akbar!" just before opening fire on U.S. Military personnel and civilians is no reason to jump to any conclusions.
In all fairness to Jasvox, I don't believe the info that Hasan shouted "Allahu Akbar!" as he oped fire was released at the time of his post.
I think, though, that it's pretty fair to assume that whether he fired on American soldiers because he hated them, or was deeply conflicted between is heritage/religion and his job, or if he snapped due to his treatment by fellow soldiers, his religious beliefs had a huge impact on his actions.

And to be fair, it had not been released at the time of my original post, either, or if it had I hadn't seen it. I was merely playing the odds.
Yes, racist, as in this post referring to his name...which is Arabic, not "Islamic".
McViegh is an Irish name, feel any better? You got one for the home team there.

Yes Jason, you have a point....When my youngest son's vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan last year, they were pretty sure it was planted by Catholics or Baptists. That sound reasonable to you? It should, with your logic, it should make perfect sense!
Regards!
Whatever the reason, or lack of reason, it is a true tragedy and our thoughts should be with the families of the slain and those that are wounded. Whether or not it is politically or religiously related matters less than it matters that many hearts are broken tonight. I feel a deep sadness for those involved and those that are left without a loved one they cherished.
Regards

From a logic standpoint, your post makes no sense, sarcasm aside. In an Islam-dominated country, one would expect most acts of violence to be performed by folks with "Muslim" names, just as WRT the hostilities between the English and the Irish, you would expect most of the violence to be performed by folks with English and Irish names.
Jason this guy yesterday WAS on the home team wearing home team colors. McVeigh was not on the home team, and got fried for is sonofabitchery.
This guy joined the ROTC on his on volition. He then let the U.S. Army pay his way through medical school. Some where along the line he swore and oath the the Constitution. However, yesterday he decided he would rather kill fellow Americans than give aid to American soldiers fighting Al Q. and Tal. in his chosen profession of psychiatry. He wouldn't even been in a direct combat situation unless it was an emergency.
They guy should be tried for treason and bare minimum sent to Leavenworth for every making little rocks out of big ones.

Dammit, here I am in the back of the class, jumping up and down and waving my arms, and you didn't pick me...
As far as I know, the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the Talibans or Al Q.
Apparently, you don't know much. In recent years there have been following the vacuum created after the Baath removal. However, you are assuming where he was going to be deployed which probably hadn't been determined.
A military official told The Associated Press that Hasan was in the preparation stage of deployment, which can take months. The official said Hasan had indicated he didn't want to go to Iraq but was willing to serve in Afghanistan. The official did not have authorization to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Edit: There is conflicting reports on this still.

WASHINGTON – An Army spokeswoman says the suspect in the Fort Hood shootings had been scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan to counsel soldiers suffering from combat stress.
Apparently, according to VPI, he didn't participate in the ROTC there and graduated with honors in 1995 rather than 1997 listed on his military records.
He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. Military records show he also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997.
But college officials said Friday that Hasan graduated with honors in biochemistry in 1995 and there was no record of him serving in any ROTC program.
He previously had attended Barstow Community College in Barstow, Calif., and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Va., according to Virginia Tech records.
