He won't last long at Canon with that attitude. If only he could have spoken better of Pentax and the Pentax lenses while he was here. I don't want to see him back, but In a very strange way I'll miss him.

Hi James,

Do you have a link to that post on photozone.de?

Thanks,

Doing that sort of thing in Canon forum reduces one's life expectancy ...

I can't help myself

Sorry I can't help myself. I just had to see what he's posting on the Canon forums. Damn he's only had the camera a week or 2 and he's already trashing it. The boy needs to get L**D! He should star in the sequel to the "40 Year Old Virgin".

Here's one response to one of his criticisms of his new Canon (they're already sounding frustrated):

RE: 5D Limitations (posted by RiceHigh)
Message:
Lamborginis have crappy rear seating accomodations. The "green" mode isn't designed for us - it's for my mom. As I said, don't use it. Auto ISO is an anti-feature IMO, unless there were a mode implemented where I could lock Av and Tv and ISO would vary in 1/3 stop or finer increments to make the exposure correct. I don't know of any maker who does this. Anything less is IMO just going to be in the way.

I know it's often the Japanese way to include EVERYTHING, but look at the cars, compared to say german cars. Sometimes the essential features implemented properly and without extra features to distract are BETTER than including the kitchen sink in the feature set. Personally in a camera of the 5Ds price I'd remove the green mode altogether.

As for not looking at exposure data, how can you miss it? DoF is a key part of composition, as is any motion blur. Framing can be fixed later to a large extent, but not DoF.

I'm not saying the 5D is perfect, but just for me, none of your complaints matter.

As for the lens, I'll let you know after I get that one, but the tests I've seen make it look completely acceptable.

OMg that guy kills me. haha. Ricehigh should just go back to the K1000 and just shaddup. lol.

The point of SLRs is for photographic control and not whining about the Auto Functions or there-lack-of.

misleading thread title

The title of this thread is misleading. To me "End of a Pentax legend" reads as follows: "Pentax has stopped the production of FA Limiteds."

A more fitting title would be, "End of Pentax user torture sessions."

I like criticism that's constructive, but my gripe with Mr. RH is that many times he'll grab some insignificant point, beat it to death and call it a flaw that will bring the entire company down... example: "no anti-reflective coating on the back element of the *ist DS viewfinder." The undue and over-abundant rhetoric is what turns me off of RH's critical writings, the endless clamoring.

It's not hard to get a digital camera manufacturer's attention these days, just have to post on some of the most important forums and they, along with the user-base, will pick the point up sooner or later.

Cheers,
-Asad

Thanks Arpe, I needed the laugh. great sense of humour. And Benjikan, that photo is so appropriate to the subject in this thread. Given your clearly defined skills you're one of the best men to counter his BS

Apparently he is into portraiture and sports photography - who would have known it! Came as a huge shock to me.

Just had to share my happy news.
I hate to burst your bubble...but apparently you've spoke too soon!

I know. Depressing isn't it - Rice High had to go and spoil the party. oh well maybe I'll take some photos with my 55mm F1.8 - love that lens and it is very therapeutic.

Or i could go out and sell some of my body organs and buy a 5D like Rice High.
