Jessica's Christening dress
Lens: sigma 28-70 Camera: km/k2000 Photo Location: downstairs ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F3.2

Hi all..........I wasnt sure where this one should go but I do want CC. My first attempts with lights and helper! Practice makes.......
Yes I made the dress.....all hand smocked and embroidered. Pity I cut the cats feet off. I can also see where my stand needs more paint.......

So 2 lights ....one behind dress to left on 1/4 to up to covered window. I can see I have a little light fall off to left......... One light to front right of dress pointed down thru my chinese soft box at 1/2 with more fabric draped over the front.

Light to right about 2' from dress.......

I might point out these are chinese charlie lights off ebay second hand..........

I am trying to work out shutter speeds/flash/apeture and frustration when it doesnt go right!

cheers
Jan

I'd say the lighting here is perfect- nothing is too bright or too dark, the shadows are just right, and the background isn't flat. Nice work!

Nice shot, the Russian Blue is just perfect! We had a Russian Blue many moons ago and named him Earl Grey.
I like the lighting, the softness works well.

Improvements:
- the stuffed animal is cut off and looks weird. Easy fix.
- Past the cat's head one can see the crease or seam in the background. A little post-processing smoothing can fix that fast.
-the cat's front paws are chopped off too, an easy fix.
-too much negative space on the right, trim about 10%.

You are very much on the right track here.

Yes, very nice soft lighting for this high key shot, Jan.
The dress does blend a little too much with the white background but it's quite a nice capture.
Indeed, it is a pity the camera angle wasn't a little further down to eliminate the negative space above and get the cat's feet and stuffed toy in the frame, so this is my biggest issue with the image.

This would be worth a reshoot, if Mischa can cooperate.
