Homepage and Forum Changes

Today, I'm proud to announce the addition of three eagerly-awaited and much-suggested sections to the site. Please enjoy and see below for details!

1. "Official Pentax News" Sub-Forum

In this section, the site staff will post official Pentax news and press releases directly on PentaxForums.com. This news will also be available on the site homepage. Regular site members cannot post new threads in this section; however, they can post comments as replies.

The old "Pentax News and Releases" section will still remain available for any news speculation or user-contributed information.

We are currently looking for an additional forum member to serve as a moderator and also possibly as a news staff member, whose added responsibility it would be to post news in this news section as it is announced by Pentax. Please see the bottom of this post for more information.

2. Photo Critique Sub-Forum

As a sub-category of the "Post Your Photos" forum, this section is meant for more serious photogaphers who are looking for some real critique of their photos. This announcement contains more information, as well as the suggested conduct, for this section.

3. New Homepage "Welcome" Box; Homepage News

The PentaxForums.com homepage now has a new, more distinct, and more friendly welcome message. Additionally, Pentax news, rather than the latest forum posts, will be displayed as the main content. In the future, we may switch to a 2-column design instead of the current 3-column layout.



I'm also happy to say that the bug in the Lens Review Database that prevented users from posting new reviews has been fixed.

Any comments or further suggestions, especially those about the homepage layout, are welcome as replies to this thread.

If you are interested in becoming a Forum Moderator/News Staff Member, please send "Mo" a private message with an application stating why you would like this position. Please also answer the following questions:

-Are you experienced with the vBulletin forum backend, or have you been a moderator or an administrator on another vBulletin-powered forum before? If not, how comfortable are you with the vBulletin user interface and BBCode WYSIWYG text editor?
-Are you willing to subscribe to the Pentaximaging.com mailing list in order to receive an e-mail when Pentax releases news or new product information?
-How frequently do you currently visit PentaxForums.com, and by how much time are you willing to increase this frequency in order to moderate the forum?

Would it be possible to add current third-party lenses to the review database? I would be happy to enter some data, if that would help.
