SIGMA 8-16mm CLUB

Not sure how many of you guys own this lens yet, but I want to see your shots! Might not get as big as the 10-20 club, but I think we should have a few members.

I ordered mine from Adorama, so I should be able to contribute soon. But I'm far from the best photographer in this forum

you cannot mount a filter on this lens
there is no need to replace sigma 10-20 or pentax 10-17 lens !!!!!!!!!!!!

i use wide angle lenses for nature photography and HDR photography
i dont imagine hou any one take pictures with wide angle lens near sea or other difficult condisions without filter !!!!!!!!!
8 mm have big lens distortions
i presume it have more distortions than pentax 10-17 mm lenses

you assumed wrong.

Pentax SMC DA 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 ED[IF] Fisheye - Review / Test Report - Analysis

the distortion factor between the two lenses is not even close. also consider the Sigma is way better than the 10-17 in IQ. as far as filter is concerned, that might be a problem but there is always post-processing and HDR as you've mentioned would take care of that.

As Pentaxor pointed out, distortion is way better than 10-17, but that's to be expected since this Sigma is rectalinear lens and SMC10-17 is FE....
As far as filters go, there's bracketing, PPing, HDR.... Have a look at my posts in 10-20 club, I've owned Sigma 10-20 for nearly 3 years now and never used filter on it... it's not just doable but it works very well too...

Thanks Marc! I, for one, will have at least a few images up in the next 24 hours. I hope there are some others out there who will be contributing soon as well.

Just got it from UPS. Stepped outside to take a shot with it. The FOV on this thing is, as expected, ridiculous.

Here's just a quick shot for you guys.

ISO 100, 1/125s, 8mm, f/11 (I would've gone with f/8, but I didnt notice I was in shutter priority).

I didn't edit the sun flare out as I figured some of you might want to see it (bottom, center). There's clearly some curvature of field, though it's nothing that bothers me with my style.
